Response from Matthew:
Unfortunately I had a bad experience with Sauro, beginning with his arrival: he was 7 hours late, and didn't respond to any of my texts, emails or phone calls until he was in front of the apartment. I was staying on the other side of town (about 45min away) and came over as soon as I heard from him. Initially I wasn't bothered by this - delays happen - until he posted this review, criticizing me for making him wait for the keys!
When my girlfriend and I came to meet him four days later to collect the keys and move the rest of our stuff out (our lease was ending in 4 days) we were greeted by Sauro in his pajamas, cooking dinner, and asking if he could stay until the end of the month. This was frustrating as we'd gone out of our way and hadn't heard about his plans to stay beforehand. In the end he insisted (in a friendly way, offering to cook us dinner the final night) and we agreed he could stay the extra 4 nights, with him paying in cash when we met again. He told me he liked the place a lot and wanted to become the next tenant; I said I'd let the landlord know he was interested, giving him her contact info and telling him to make backup plans in case things didn't work out.
four days later, I'm receiving cryptic, angry texts from Sauro, and can't find him at the apartment. it takes around 4 hours before I meet him in person, at which point I learn that earlier that day, the landlord had called the cops on him; when he was told the place wouldn't be available for a month he evidently didn't take it very well. I still felt bad for him and assumed the conflict had more to do with a language/customs barrier (the landlord is a little uptight) than anything else, and offered to come with him to the station to try and clear things up. In the end I didn't ask for the extra four night's money (he also never offered), he gave me the keys, and I felt like we left on relatively amicable terms.
Coming back to the apartment to finally move our things out we notice some stuff is missing - a cutting board, some kitchen things - and there's a pile of trash on the kitchen floor. I can sort of understand the latter as he left in a hurry, but am assuming he took the kitchen supplies on purpose. A week later a really nasty, defamatory review comes through from Sauro, attacking me and ridiculing the supposedly wretched condition of the apartment. I can understand he was upset by the police incident, but him taking his frustration out on me in this way is totally unfair and by far the most disappointing part of the whole situation.
