Location-wise, it was PERFECT! Walking distance to Bourbon St/French Quarter but far enough away that we didn't feel like we were in party central day in and day out. In regards to the apartment, the balcony was definitely my favorite part of the apartment. It really does look exactly as the pictures show. The building itself is fairly old (the floors creaked with every step) but as others have mentioned, it's part of its New Orleans charm. The decor is unique and everything was functional and that's what matters most! We had 4 people with us for some parts of our stay and as Joshua will tell you himself, it's tight for that size group, but we made it work. As for the host, we didn't have a chance to meet him in person but he was very responsive and easy-going from the beginning of the reservation all the way until we checked out.
One dining recommendation if you want something nice, not crowded and really close by to the apartment (as in less than 2 blocks away) -- EAT. So good, so cute, and best of all, you don't have to wait as long as other places in the area for a table.
Everything was great and as advertised. I've read the other reviews and don't have much to add. I thought the artwork and decorations were fantastic. I felt very safe and comfortable.
There is a new Whole Foods that opened in Feb. 2014 that is very close to the French Quarters and was an $8 cab ride away from the place. Very convenient when you are traveling with a vegan girlfriend who is allergic to nuts and soy!
We had a perfect stay at Joshua place! The apartment is located within the French Quarter but in a quite area, so we could easily walk to all the interesting places and then have nice rest back at the apartment. It is in a charming house and the balcony is nice (although the cold weather did not allowed us to enjoy it) The place is well equipped and Joshua has left a great number of informations regarding how to use the equipment and also the places to go for visiting, eating and so on. Also during our stay Joshua contacted us to make sure that everything was alright . We absolutely recommand this place
This is a charming and unique apt in the Quarter, and one of the loveliest Airbnb experiences I've had. The location is just about perfect: Far enough from the main tourist drag to be quiet, but within 10 minutes' walk of the heart of the Quarter, Frenchmen St to the East, and the Treme to the North. Plus there are three decent road bikes available, which will easily get you to the Bywater, CBD, or further. The apartment itself has beautiful light, a comfortable bed, and lots of space for a Vieux Carre historic building. It's full of unique art and antiques, but has modern conveniences such as a web-connected HDTV and good wifi. We loved having coffee on the balcony in the mornings. Now, understand this is a very old building in New Orleans, so the kitchen is small, the plumbing can be a little finicky, and there can be a musty smell time to time. For us, this is all part of the charm and hardly negates everything else that's wonderful about the apartment. Our dealing with Joshua was pretty effortless, and dealt with exclusively through clear and informative emails and texts. A great stay!
Response from Joshua:
Thank you Scott! I love it when people make use of the bikes (even if they are a bit old). Am so glad you enjoyed your stay.
We had a wonderful time at Joshua's place. The place has a lot of character with a mix of retro furnitures with modern paintings + images: we loved it.
The location couldn't be better as it's one block from Bourbon but it's very quiet. We were a little bit unlucky with the weather so we couldn't enjoy the wonderful balcony everyday but I'm sure in Spring or Summer, this would be perfect!
Place is highly recommended. Much better than a n hotel in the French Quarter.
Joshua is really a cool host and it was very easy to communicate with him.
I cannot imagine a better place to stay in New Orleans. Joshua's place is in a perfect location and the fabulous decor of the apartment makes you wish you could dwell there forever. It's also really homely and has plenty of tea and coffee so you can brew a cup and chill on the balcony after a day of pounding the streets. Joshua and his friend Meredith who was taking care of the place while we were there were wonderful hosts - flexible, welcoming and helpful. They actually went above and beyond since I left something behind and they kindly mailed it to me. I cannot recommend highly enough.
Hey guys just recently stayed in the this apartment. Was very nice and comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. It's tucked right in the French quarter and walking distance from everything. Didn't need anything but the host were only a phone call away. If your looking not to drive in New Orleans this is the place to be .
We loved staying at this apartment. It was spacious and filled with interesting art work and objects that were easy to love, like a typewriter and old cash register. The kitchen was well stocked and we took advantage of things like sugar and coffee, especially the first morning. We had numerous texts back and forth with my questions about the art and by the end I felt I had made a new friend!
Staying at Joshua's place in New Orleans absolutely made our trip and I couldn't recommend this place more to others! It was very spacious, clean and really had that 'New Orleans' feel to it! Joshua was extremely helpful and informative prior to our stay here. With short notice, I contacted him asking if my sister could stay with my husband and I in his house, and he was very accommodating, even leaving a bottle of bubbles out for our arrival (we hadn't seen each other in a year!) He left a book of great recommendations of activities to do and places to eat which were very well received. All kitchen amenities were provided, including a stocked pantry with all the extra little bits and pieces you need that you don't necessary remember to buy (like oil, salt, pepper, etc), which we were invited to use. We absolutely loved this gorgeous apartment and couldn't recommend it more highly to others! We will definitely be back!
Joshua's place was simply amazing. I booked the vacation last minute and Joshua was extremely responsive. The experience was seamless. The place is truly special. It's in a local part of the french quarter close to everything. It rained while I was there, and if it weren't for Joshua's amazing place, a perfect place to read, write, and take in the New Orleans charm, my experience would have been completely different. I would absolutely recommend this place for its unique qualities, impeccable design, big windows, beautiful art, and the fact that it's just special. Will book again soon!
So glad to have met Josh! Wonderful guest with lots of interesting stories. He gave us some much needed help with our new startup! Left the apartment immaculately clean. :)
Comet and I have been friends and comrades for several years and I'm glad he's a part of the Airbnb community. His creative spirit and enthusiasm for New Orleans make him an ideal host, and his place in the French Quarter is very special indeed.
Comet is an amazing person and a charming host. If you want to experience New Orleans in a non-touristic authentic way, then you will enjoy your stay here. Very conveniently located, you will be close to many shops, restaurants and activities. Comet is knowledgeable about the surrounding areas, friendly and will make you feel right at home!
This apartment located in the heart of the French Quarter is well-adorned with eclectic art work and furnishings. Not only is it decorated well, but the place is super clean. The view from the balcony is perfect for people watching!
I have known Comet for years now, and, as an airbnb host, I am so happy that he is joining the airbnb community. Comet is an ideal host for a number of reasons, among which are that he is a seasoned traveler himself so he knows what a person is looking for in experiencing a new city, and also he is a well-known local artist who is very active in the community and very familiar with the city.
Beyond being an ideal host, the apartment is perfect for someone looking to experience authentic New Orleans. The location is perfect, the balcony is enviable, and the interior is a microcosm of the city itself: eclectic, elegant, and fun.
I would absolutely recommend this host and this apartment to anyone looking to have a unique, memorable stay in the Big Easy. :)
