I am a professor of sociology and political science at the University of Trento, in the north-east of Italy. I also lived in Ivrea (north of Turin), Milan, Edinburgh, and Barcelona. I love playing acoustic guitar (blues and Celtic music) although I am not that good. I also love classic music, especially baroque concertos and piano. In the 1980s I did a lot of mountaineering in the Alps but I am far too exhausted now for that stuff. When time allows, I am more into cycling (especially mountain-biking), hill-walking, and ski mountaineering. I have trekked in the Zanskar Valley (Ladakh, India), Annapurna Sanctuary (Nepal), and Yosemite Valley (California). Reading, going to the movies – more rarely, theatre – and cooking (not that well) for friends are other enjoyable ways to spend my spare time. So is watching rugby, that I played for over 20 years, mostly in Italy but also in Scotland. I do not smoke.
