a better world is possible!
I'm a farmer and I take care of my plants and of my guests!
Lovely farm in the countryside of Mestre!!:)) with 30 mins bus to Venice~ the room is really comfortable with 24h warm water and a small kitchen~ Maurizio was really kind and pick us up in the train station!!:)) although it was raining in the first several days , I had a wonderful trip though~
Nice base for a visit to Venice, especially if you have your own car. We (a group of 5) stayed in a very nice self-contained apartment just down the road from the main house. We were pleasantly surprised to find a kitchen (with oven) and heaters in every room to stave off the January chill. Soft, comfortable beds, lots of peace and quiet and a slow but working wifi connection made our visit a pleasure, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Maurizio's place to any visitors to the region.
Maurizio was kind enough to pick us up at the airport though he charged 15 euros, which is a reasonable price. As our room was newly renovated, it was very clean and nice. The kitchen was freely available for our use as well. BUT, the heater is too weak for the size of the room, and did not even work on the third night. We were literally freezing all the time. Also, Maurizio is not very friendly and did not communicate with us much. Worse still, he was very unhelpful at our departure - we needed to get to the train station but he wouldn't tell us which bus to get there and there was no information on (website hidden)maps. All he said was "I have nothing to say." He didnt wake up to offer a ride or send us off, and didnt even bid us goodbye the night before. His last contact with us was to collect tax money before going out to party. My friend and I walked in the freezing cold (there was frost on the grass) at 7.30am and lugged our luggages for 1 and a half hours (6km) to the station. We had a very unhappy experience. We will not recommend this place to anyone.
Good location only a short way out of town, with peace and quiet apart from the rooster in the morning (bring earplugs and he won't bother you). Very friendly hosts, good access to cooking and food storage facilities, as well as the free wifi, computer and printer. Even though my stay was during winter and I almost froze to the floor on getting out of bed in the morning (turning up at this time of year was of course my fault entirely, a poor idea) I enjoyed the atmosphere of the place, and the respite it provided from busy Venice.
When booking for the place do be prepared for a bit of an adventure finding the place - I wouldn't recommend it at night - and very few English speakers when you get to the Zelarino suburb, but then you are camping, there should be some adventure!
My Stay at Maurizio's biogarden was superb. I had a wonderful time. I stayed there outside the season and it was nice and quiet. It was a great experience to be outside the city of Venice but close enough to go there by bike and bus. Maurizio and the other people who stayed on the farm were very friendly and helpful. Mimi is a great cook. She uses vegetables from the garden. I would definitely recommend this place!
What a great rural setting, we had a very pleasant stay. It was great to safely leave our car and take the bus to Venice As we were checking out an extensive re-model project was just beginning which I understand will make the facility even nicer.
We love to camp, we love to eat the freshest organic vegetables possible, and we were looking to get away from larger cities. Rainbow Bio-garden was perfect for us. Maurizio, Vincenzo, and Mimi were wonderful - offering us everything from wine to gathering our own fresh eggs (they do ask that you "leave some coins") at the end of your stay. Our only argument was with the enthusiastic and vocal rooster.
A couple of tips - if you're arriving at Venezia-Mestre train station (and don't speak Italian), the bus to Zelarino is not that easy to find and requires a connection. Either take Maurizio up on the offer of a ride, suck it up and pay 30euro for a taxi, or plan on an adventure. Also, this is a farm and you are camping. There is mud, it can be wet/cold (although with our heater from Maurizio were were toasty and dry), and there are spiders. Also, you will need to bike the mile to the bus stop at the end of the road - Vincenzo will rent you a bike lock and there are tons of bikes, so no worries. As for the bathrooms, as we were leaving, Maurizio mentioned that they are remodeling and expanding and adding new bathrooms for next season - so enjoy!
Between the amazing location (the farm itself and the 30 minutes to Venice or Padua by bus/train) and the joys of living a farm lifestyle we will be back!
Maurizio collected us from the airport and dropped us off at the end of our stay, he provided us with bikes free of charge and offered us fresh organic vegetables from the farm in exchange for a few coins. We thoroughly enjoyed coming back to the peaceful atmosphere of the farm each evening after walking around Venice all day and the photo does no justice to the 'wagoon' which was really cosy, colorful and had a little kitchen in it. I hope I can get back there at some point, its a real gem.
Maurizio was very nice and gave us all the information we needed in order to feel good. The accomodation was clean and well equipped, we were very pleased with the rooms. The bus to Venice was easy to find and it was easy to get to Venice in an about 40 minutes busride. It takes you directly to Piazzale Roma.
Maurizio, gentiluomo con passati sportivi di primissimo ordine in campo mondiale, è una persona diretta e sincera, come la terra da cui proviene. Cordialità ed educazione sono da esempio.
