My wife and I along with another couple just had a great weekend at the JazzFest shotgun. Our every need was accommodated and we felt right at home from the start. For jazz fest it made a huge difference to be in walking distance from the grounds especially on the first night when the show was cut short by a thunderstorm/monsoon.
Great House and great backyard! Hosts were very accommodating, wine and cheese was waiting when we arrived, hot tub was working well and very relaxing.
We had a wonderful week stay here for French Quarter fest. Thank you for the beautiful accommodations and hospitality!
Joseph and Paul made us feel not just welcome, but wanted! They were kind enough to let us check in early and check out late due to our flight schedule and rain, and Paul even printed our boarding passes out (Spirit charges 10 dollars just to check in at the counter). They were attentive, thorough, having thought out every need you'll have, and laid back hosts I recommend for everyone. Paul even tried to get some oysters in us before we left for our flight as they were setting up a party in the back, but we couldn't stay due to timing. I hope to come back and take him up on those oysters next year!
If you're looking to avoid traveling time from your stay to the French Quarter, stay in the French Quarter--cabs to and from pretty much anywhere in the city to this space were in the 12 dollar range which is not bad but something to consider (they did provide bikes, we just chose not to use them). If you're looking for a considerate host situation with a clean, thought-out, fun space that can stand as its own getaway aside from Bourbon St., you can't lose with the Carriage House.
We spent our first ever experience in New Orleans at the carriage house and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Our hosts greeted us as we arrived and made us feel welcome and at home for our entire trip. The bikes were CLUTCH for getting around town and allowed us to explore at our leisure. The double shower heads and hot tub on the roof, both of which we used everyday, really added a touch of rustic luxury. Would stay again hands down.
Our welcome from Paul was perfect (after 20 hrs of travelling with delays and missed flights), he'd been shopping for essentials (wine, bread and cheese), explained all we needed to know, gave us a tour, and made us feel relaxed and welcome. Not only did this gorgeous Shotgun house exceed all our expectation (the photos are great, but the reality is 10 times better), It's tastefully decorated, with high ceilings, spacious rooms, incredibly comfortable beds, a bathroom the size of most London flats, leading out onto a pretty, landscaped garden with huge table and private snug with hot tub. There are bikes to use, soft towels, soaps etc, hairdryer, TV's, Netflix (not that you'll have time to watch), all kitchenware, barbecue & firepit in the garden.
That night Paul recommended we take a short walk up beautifully tree lined Ursulines Ave, (highly recommended if you love period architecture), to a hub of three great local restaurants, which did not disappoint, a real taste of New Orleans.
The next morning, I went to the local shop for eggs and bacon etc, and we sat out in the garden enjoying the sun and catching up with Joseph, who's super host status shone through. He's witty, kind and takes a genuine interest in getting to know you and your New Orleans adventure. Both Joseph and Paul obviously love the city, and will answer any questions you may have or advice you need. We decided to walk into town, down Esplanade, which takes you right into the French Quarter in about 30 mins, and then taxis back at night, which is recommended throughout the city. By staying in this house and neibourhood you get a sense of the real New Orleans, which enriched our visit. We all loved our stay, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend or return.
First time to New Orleans and because of people like Joe & Paul, we will most definitely be back! The carriage house was exactly as described, if not BETTER. The bedroom area was cozy and comfortable, with a French press, coffee beans, and a coffee grinder. The bed was very comfy! The bathroom/shower unit was like a luxurious outdoor spa complete with fluffy towels and accessible shampoo/conditioner/body soap. Taking a shower with the two shower heads and listening to the rain fall on the roof... HEAVENLY! Every detail in both units was well thought out and beautifully appointed. There's also a resident love bug (pup) by the name of Treme that checks in every so often to make sure your stay is going well.
What really made our experience so great was the people. Joe was thoughtful enough to ask if we would mind him having a crawfish boil party during our stay and invited us to partake. What a blessing it was just to be part of this community's gathering (and the food was amazing!). Everyone was so kind and welcoming to us... No one was a stranger. It's an experience we will never forget and one that we surely wouldn't have had the opportunity to experience had we stayed in a hotel. Thank you so much, Joe and Paul, for welcoming us into your beautiful home and warm community!
The Jazzfest Shotgun is a real gem. Joe and Paul were the most gracious of hosts, the apartment was the perfect amount of space for my three girlfriends and I, and it was such a luxury to have a backyard and a hot tub to relax in. The space was clean and tidy, and we had everything we needed - plenty of towels, comfy beds, plus a bottle of wine and cheese upon arrival. The neighborhood was adorable, and we had an easy time walking to the bus stop (for those not renting a car, it should be noted that the buses seem to run very infrequently, so we wound up taking taxis more than we would have liked). Overall, we had a fantastic time and I would definitely stay here again!
What a great host and a terrific forest time NOLA experience! Joseph was interesting, polite and very kind to my wife and I on our honeymoon. We had such a wonderful stay, enjoyed the city, the weather and biking all over during our stay. Accommodations were clean, cute, comfortable and relaxing. The Jacuzzi and courtyard have a fantastic charm and added to the trip. Any host who provides a French press to their guests gets extra points from this coffee snob. And delicious dark roast to boot!
Paul, the caretaker, met us at the place. He showed us around the house and the backyard. There was wine and cheese left as a welcoming gift. We really enjoyed our time! The backyard is great for grilling or having a glass of wine and relaxing outside. We would highly recommend staying here.
