I am a retired hotelier who has moved to Paradise! Come visit the beautiful red cliffs of the Animas Valley, just 9 miles North of Durango, Colorado.
Where to start? I spent a month at the Ponderosa House and enjoyed every minute of my stay. I loved the location - between Durango and the ski hill. The property is peaceful, yet with very easy access to all Durango has to offer. I saw wild turkeys and deer crossing the property multiple times, and heard at least two owls each morning. There are great views of the Animas Valley from the living room and master bedroom. The house is comfortable and fully stocked with everything you need. If you must stay connected, the office area and WiFi are great. The living room has plenty of comfortable seating and a huge TV for your viewing pleasure. And I really loved the little fenced area for my dogs. It made getting them out so, so easy. And last but not least, Candace is wonderful. She is very helpful and made sure I was aware of some of the more important activities going on (like the winter Snowdown festival). All in all, a great stay.
I loved staying at Candace's quiet mountain cottage. It is a beautiful 10-15 minute drive from things right in Durango and such a comfortable and peaceful place! Gorgeous views of the eastern mountains of Animas Valley are right out the window and the front windows of the cottage are south facing for wonderful light on sunny winter days! Candace thought of everything to make the cottage cozy and pleasant right down to a humidifier and an iron and ironing board, adirondack chairs outside and an outdoor table for enjoying meals or coffee. Candace is a great hostess - friendly and helpful. She kept me abreast of the local goings on and thanks to her I enjoyed a few things I would have missed out on otherwise. I enjoyed being able to cook and eat in my beautiful surroundings and also enjoyed a few great local places Candace suggested. Another of the wonderful surprises Candace introduced me to was the fire road at the end of the driveway where I took several hour long hikes up in the ponderosa pine forests above the cottage with deer, squirrels and lots of birds and gorgeous views of the valley. I would stay with Candace again anytime and recommend her cottage for anyone looking for a peaceful place to stay during their visit to Durango.
We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. I would definitely recommend it!
This is a very comfortable cottage in a great location. The host considered every little detail and the cottage was very thoughtfully stocked with just about everything a traveler might need. Very pleasant experience!!!! Highly recommended.
Candace was a great host and we really enjoyed our stay. Perfect place for a couple!
Would highly recommend and stay again.
Candace's Ponderosa Pine Cottage is clean, quiet and includes a functional kitchen. About 10 minutes from Durango, I enjoyed the tranquil setting of Candace's cottage. There are homes immediately adjacent to the cottage, but the layout provides good privacy. Although there are two beds (one being a small pull-out/convertible love seat), the cottage was a bit small for a cycling teammate and me. However, the size is perfect for a couple or even a couple with a kid. Candace herself is delightful and accommodating.
Quiet, friendly beautiful attention to detail. We had a nice time. The city of Durango is full of entertainment has the largest concentration of Brewpubs in the world. She let us bring our dogs and near by hiking trails.50 miles to Meas Verde what could be better.Sports Culture and education everything you look for in a vacation and travel and 6 hours from Denver.
For us, the kitchen makes traveling so much easier. We are in control of the food.Sit with a glass of wine on the porch near the stream.Outstanding.Thank you Candace for a great relaxing get away.
Anyone looking to get back to nature and the calm of the Rocky Mountains would be very happy with this listing. Those seeking a peaceful area will feel the beauty of the Animas Valley nearby. At night, the stars are so clear and bright, it feels as if you could just reach out and touch them. I will definitely house any excess guests here, it is a really cute cabin. The owner is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She just wants for her guests to be comfortable and happy and relax into the joy of nature. She lives here because she loves our area, and she wants to ensure you will love this area, too.
