Gil and Ellyn were awesome. This was a nice place in a great location, and Gil and Ellyn really completed the package.
We loved Gil and Ellyn's house! It was a beautiful house and very well-cared for. Everything was clean and comfortable and we had plenty of space for 7 people. It is in a great location and there are lots of cute shops/restaurants right on Oak street. The streetcar was convenient with a stop just 1 block away. Ellyn also left us beer, water, snacks, and the rest of the house very well-stocked for our stay - it was nice to arrive from the airport with snacks already in the house :) We would definitely stay here again!!
The house exceeded our expectations and the check in/out process was incredibly easy. Gil and Ellyn we're incredible hosts, leaving us snack and treats. The house was clean, beautiful and I truly felt like I was staying in a home. We were comfortable the whole time, having the comforts of a home including a wonderful front porch and secluded back patio. Lastly, the house is in a great location - much quieter than being downtown, but still with great restaurants and bars and a lot of character in the neighborhood. We felt like we had an authentic New Orleans experience.
I have had the pleasure of some wonderful hosts, but Ellyn and Gil may take the cake. My family and I stayed here for the weekend and their hospitality was top-notch. When my brother and his wife had cancelled and switched flights, Ellyn and Gil made them feel very welcome and were thankful for accommodating the last minute changes. The house is as advertised and the pictures are accurate. I lived in New Orleans for 2 years in the Garden District and can say that this house is representative of the city in a real and positive way. Oak Cafe with live piano music while you enjoy some low-key but excellent food (and watermelon juice!) made me feel like I had found the right place. There are a few restaurants nearby and the streetcar is only 2 blocks or so. I have the highest recommendation for Ellyn's hospitality, and her responsiveness was incredible. I can only hope that I can come back and stay again soon. Thank you for being amazing hosts.
I was a little skeptical about the whole experience but from the beginning of the transaction until we left the apartment, everything was awesome. When I arrived, Gil and Ellyn greeted me and told me about the apartment as well as things to do in the city. It turned out to be one of my better travel experiences. I plan to stay with Gil and Ellyn in the future; and I highly recommend staying with them if you are looking for comfortable, safe and centrally located lodging.
Great place and location!!!! Ellyn had everything needed for an absolute perfect stay for my girlfriends. A hidden gem in NOLA!!!
Ellyn and Gil's apartment was great! The location is great for anyone wanting to stay uptown and just a block from the trolly. They had literally everything you might need to have a comfortable stay (extra linens, lots of tea, coffee, etc). We'd recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the city.
Gil and Ellyn's place was the perfect home base for my family and I (4 people) while exploring the city. The house is in a great part of town, and very conveniently located around the corner from great food and entertainment as well as the Mississippi! The house is fully stocked as if someone was living there, so our hosts had left us absolutely everything we could possibly need for a live-in vacation - from martini shakers and beer to tupperware and tea candles. Gil and Ellyn are also meticulous about details, and the place was impeccably clean and ready for us upon arrival. Would recommend this stay without hesitation to anyone, esp. families.
Very nice; as advertised. If you are a light sleeper, you may want to consider other units. The bed headboard is against the common wall with the adjacent unit and there appears to be no soundproofing in the wall.
This stay was meant to be the ultimate relaxation in New Orleans and it was! After a week and a half on the road, it was nice to stay at a fully equipped, private house with all of the bell and whistles. If I wanted to cook, there was a fully stocked kitchen. Laundry needed to be done? All of the items were supplied. There was even a private deck in the back to star gaze.
I stayed for almost a week and it was the coldest week on record! (polar vortex even reached the gulf.) Even though the house was chilly, (the heating systems in the south aren't made for 12 degree weather,) Ellyn provided more than enough portable heaters and blankets which made the house nice and cozy.
Location was great and exactly what I was looking for; not touristy enough to have it always fully packed, public transportation one block away- with a rite aid right on the corner, and enough restaurants around so I could eat close by. The travel to the French Quarter does take time to get to by street car, so make sure you factor that in (about an hour to an hour and a half- they were doing construction on the line while I stayed) but the whole route is very scenic.
Over all, it was the perfect stay and I was sad to leave!
