An oasis in the city. For two non-Spanish speaking visitors to Montevideo Fernanda went out of her way to provide assistance in her pleasant apartment. Well traveled and multi-lingual she helped us move around easily. The apartment is a well located between the best eatery in town and the downtown city center.
A great place and charming host.
I loved to stay at Fernanda's place. I felt like at home and could get in and out home as well have shower whenever I wanted or needed. At the beginning I didn't feel so save in the area (ciudad vieja). But with the explications from Fernanda I got to know better how to get along with strangers at night. I was also happy to wash my clothes at her house. For a long stay very important!
We had a wonderful stay @ Fernandas. Centrally located in the Old City, easy walking, places to eat. Fernanda even gave up her double bed when we realized we booked twins (listing was confusing). Close to the port, the weather was breezy and fans sufficed to keep us cool. We like to eat in often and the kitchen was more than adequate. Fernanda is a great hostess, speaks English and very professional (having worked on cruise ships for many years). The downside is I am not allergic to cats in general, but had a bad reaction to the Siamese cat. Something to consider. The Old City is an up and coming area, old building being converted with wonderful architecture. We came for Carneval and were not disappointed with the 2 parades of Murgas and Samba Schools. We would highly recommend this listing.
Fernanda couldn't have been more accommodating and generous. The house was most interesting in an old part of the city which featured elegant old buildings in various states of disrepair which was quite charming. We were reminded of an allergy to cats which Fernanda freely discloses so if you have this issue, it's probably not the place for you. Our room was adequate but we would have liked some ventilation. No opening window (might have helped with the allergies.) We were told that the neighborhood was not safe for walking around at night by numerous people and didn't test it out ourselves as a result.
Fernanda was a perfect hostess. Her apartment is perfectly located in the old city with easy walking access to the square and marketplace. But what makes Fernanda's place for independent travelers is Fernanda herself. She has an uncanny knack for knowing when to be a hostess and when to allow self-discovery. Her coaching as to where to go (and not to go) was spot on.
We arrived after some arduous travel and later then planned. We were greeted, shown our room and allowed to sleep for about 18 hours. The house was quiet and very restful. Yet when we regained consciousness Fernanda was there to assist in any way possible.
And by the way, if you like cats, Fernanda has two great cats that are friendly, independent and a perfect fit in this truly nice bedroom in the old city.
If you are independent, want to stay in the old city, like cats and the perfect hostess...stay with Fernanda.
The room is in an historical building and an historical district (Ciudad Vieja) which is gradually being renovated.
The attractive principal picture of this particular accomodation is not the bedroom but the living room, which is not very accessible to the guests. The bedroom is adequate but sparsely furnished and the bathroom shared with the owner. The bedroom has no TV, however good WiFi access. The main drqwback is that there is no place to store and hang one's clothes. There is a closet, but it is locked and not available to the guests.
The positve sides of the room are its central location, within easy walking distance to various plazas, the central shopping avenue of the city, a pedestrian only zone and close to the harbour and buquebus terminal. The bedroom is quiet and clean with two single beds. One other thing: my flight arrived very late, after midnight, but in spite of the strenuous and very early work schedule of the owner, she was kind enough to wait up for me until I arrived at 2 a.m..
In summary, then, the room is adequate but,, given its limitations as mentioned above, perhaps a bit pricey as most things in Uruguay are fairly expensive.
Also, one general comment for travellers from North America, the electricity in Uruguay is 220 volts and the plugs different; therefore, you will need a transformer and adapter to use or charge your electronic equipment such as laptops, cameras and cell phones, something that perhaps could be emntioned in the description of the accomodation.
This was a nice oasis in the old city. Fernanda has done a great job making her apartment, and the room that I stayed in was spacious and comfortable.
It was great to chat with Fernanda after she got home from work and learn a lot more about the city and her life in it. I felt at home there.
The area itself appears run down and old (well, it is the old city) but there are nice restaurants and pleasant places to walk as it is close to many museums and other attractions. I took the Buquebus from there to Buenos Aires and it was nice that it is only a short walk away.

Fernanda is a great person who likes to take care of people, she is friendly, educated and funny.
Is a great hostess to anyone who stays at her beautiful home or just go to visit.
From the touristic point of view, the place is very well located, big and comfortable.
I really recommend her and her place for people who wants to visit Montevideo and have the best impression of the city and its people.
My husband and I had a wonderful time here. Fernanda, the owner of this warm and beutiful place, was really charming and helpful with us, she recomended very cool places to go and we had a very good time. We felt like at home at her place.
