The Peaks Island Boathouse was the perfect weekend getaway. Charming decor, comfortable accommodations, and most importantly, an incredible view. The Boathouse had everything we needed to enjoy a stress free weekend, and Wally and Carol were incredibly accommodating and helpful. One of the most special places we had ever visited. We will certainly miss waking up there!
Staying at Wally and Carol's boat house was an absolute delight! What can be better than waking to the sound of water lapping at the shore very close by? Wally and Carol made sure we had everything we needed and seemed to really care about our vacation on Peak's Island. The location was great, since we could walk to dinner or to the ferry into Portland if we so chose. One could also take a more extended walk to some of the more remote parts of the island. When we felt like stretching out on the deck chairs, a parade of sails and kayaks kept us entertained. As the tide ebbed, we watched Great Blue Heron's feeding on the nearby shore. Fluffy down comforters and a cozy stove kept us cozy when the temperatures dipped. There is a lovely variety of books spread about everywhere. We are so grateful that we discovered this magical place!
Everything about our experience was perfect. The photos don't do the property, views, or space justice. I think our only regret was that we didn't book more nights at their boathouse.
Additionally, Wally and Carol were so accommodating, helpful, and available for us to ask questions.
If you're staying on Peaks Island, stay here!
Wally and Carol were very responsive and accommodating from the get-go. Their boathouse is extremely charming. Loved sitting on the deck during high tide because the water comes up beneath you. Can't wait to visit again during a warmer month so we can advantage of the hammock and kayak!
We had a great time at the boathouse. We stayed the week after labor day and the tourist season was winding down so we were able to relax and enjoy the house and island. The location of the house on Peak's Island gives you views to both the sunrise and sunset--which were spectacular. Evenings were quiet and you could really hear the waves lapping against the beach. The other folks and I can't recall a better night's sleep than at Wally and Carol's Boathouse.
The cabin is both rustic and well equipped. The kitchen has all the basic cookware and utensils. A big lobster pot, crackers, and some pantry staples like sugar, flour, and cooking oil.
Wally and Carol were very responsive, helpful, and accommodating. I recommend staying at their boathouse, and hope to do it again next year.
The Boathouse was an absolutely perfect location for our week of kayak and sailing. There is nothing as soothing as sleeping with the sound of the waves lapping against the house. The sunsets on the deck were as beautiful in the pictures. We were able to watch the boys sailing right from our deck. The kids thought it was "the best vacation ever." Wally & Carol have thought of every possible quaint detail in this lovely quintessential Maine abode. Although we didn't get to meet them they kept in communication. We have spent time on Peaks before but this was definitely the best so far! We will gladly return if its available in the future.
We had an awesome couple of days on Peaks Island! The boathouse was charming, with beautiful views of the ocean and other islands. We enjoyed the fact that the house is rustic and not modernized (although it has all of the necessities).
The boathouse was great! The setting could not be more perfect - during high tide, 75% of the house was surrounded by water - which is a really unique vibe for a house. I've stayed in 4 different cottages on Peaks, and this one definitely takes the cake for most interesting and unique! I'd highly recommend it.
We stayed at the boathouse in May, our first trip with our ten month old; she struggled to sleep well in Boston but when we got to the Boathouse, she slept amazing, we all did. This is such a unique place and Wally a Carol were such gracious hosts. We would love to make it back again and again.
Carol was an excellent guest! While I wasn't able to meet her in person, she was fantastic at communicating her plans, and she was very respectful of our home.
Wally and Carol were great to have. They were extremely laid back and good company. They had a genuine interest in the area and getting the most from their few days in Connemara.
Thanks again. We had a great two days in Clifden and the rest of our trip was equally spectacular! Sad to leave Ireland.
Wally & Carol
Wally and Carol were delightful guests. They were most congenial,
helpful, and very appreciative of all the cabin and its surroundings
had to offer. An added bonus was that they are seasoned airbnb
hosts, so we could compare notes about our experiences. I hope
they will come again.
Wally and Carol are a lovely, fantastic couple! I immediately felt as if we'd known each other for years. So warm and friendly, engaging and resourceful, appreciative, respectful and incredibly considerate. They left the guest quarters in immaculate condition. I highly recommend them as guests. We would welcome them back in a heartbeat and I so hope to see them again ( here or...? perhaps when Mark & I venture up to Maine sometime?). Can't say enough kind words about these two (and daughter Morgan as well!). Wally & Carol are one of the reasons I do Airbnb.
I have known Wally (and later Carol) since the first time my family rented this amazing cottage 12 years ago. They are two of the warmest, loveliest people I know who seem to feel truly feel blessed to have this "heaven on earth" spot on Peak's Island and genuinely feel the desire to share it with others. My family's time each year on Peaks has become woven into the fabric of our lives, and is a tradition which fuels us and keeps us going the rest of the year. When my youngest daughter was small and had trouble going to sleep, it was stories of our adventures and descriptions of the cottage and what we saw, smelled and felt there which would comfort her to sleep. She would ask me to describe a day at the cottage from the minute she woke up to the minute she fell asleep, and it always worked!
On a cold February day, it is thinking of being on the porch, surrounded by water and sunsets, that gets me through. It is magic there and I am very grateful to have been able to share it over the years.
Carol and Wally are perhaps the most gracious couple we've met. We rented their cottage on the beach of Peak's Island last summer for a week. After the ferry ride, we met them at the door and they couldn't have been more cheerful. Their excitement of wanting us to be there just poured from their smiles. We had a very calming and delightful stay. We're hooked and we look forward to our time spent at the cottage!
I tend to breath a little easier when I am around these two and feel truly blessed to have them in my life. I always find myself feeling a bit lighter and brighter in the presence of their company and anytime I set foot inside their magical boathouse.
