Roger is very friendly and helpful; helped us get to know the neighborhood and area, accommodated my pre-arrrival emailed question about the number of chairs shown in the photos by adding four more, and provided coffee and cereal we could start our days with.
The apartment was reasonably clean and as described and photographed (with the addition of the extra chairs).
Traffic noise was surprisingly loud. The bedroom is street-side and morning rush hour traffic included numerous commuters who use this street as one to race down to avoid traffic on the major street one block away.
The tenants living upstairs do not seem to understand, or perhaps don't care about, the volume of sound transmitted through their floor into Roger's apartment. Foot steps, furniture moving, voices and music were intrusive into the late hours of every night.
One of the neighbors blasted music from his car system very late on two nights.
Half of the door locks were poorly installed and frustratingly difficult to operate.
The hotspot Roger uses failed to provide access to the internet for our devices.
We spent 12 (email hidden) and we had the time of our lives. Roger helped us settle down, showed us the neighborhood and we all felt soo welcome. The appartment is what its shown in the pictures and you dont need more then that. The lack of furnitures just made us go out and explore and just get lost instead of staying in. The neigborhood is really nice and its easy to get around. Thank you Roger for a great stay at your place! Id really recommend anyone to stay there next youll pay NYC a visit, we sure will!
Roger's place is fabulous - very spacious, clean, and very close to the subway. Roger is a wonderful host; he was so flexible with check in, left food in the fridge, helped me set up wifi and organised keys and check out. I cannot recommend him (or this place!) more highly. Thanks Roger!
Me and my friend Jeppe stayed at Rogers place for a week in June and we had such a great time. The apartment is clean and tidy and very close to the A and C metro to Manhattan. Roger is such a great host, quickly responding, a great personality and he had even bought us some things for the fridge just to get going. We would definitely stay there again.
We had a great time staying at Roger .he Was a great host. We defínetely recomend you staying at his place
We spent May 12 - May 26 ,2013 at Home Away from Home. We were a bit uncomfortable but soon got used to the neighbour hood after the first 1-2 days. Roger took us to a supermarket a block away and the AC subway was a 5- 10 minutes walk. We were generally out all day and usually back by about 9 pm. A computer/smart phone is a must as there was no TV or radio. The WiFi went down the last day we were there. We were able to find free parking on the road with no trouble - although you have to move you car every other day from 8:30 -10 am so that they can sweep the road. During this time, you simply double park and the cops accepts this and won't give you a ticket !
The apartment is exactly as shown in the pictures. Roger was waiting for us on arrival. The kitchen was stocked with bagels and cream cheese , a 4 L jug of milk, a plate of fresh fruits ,Eggs, a tin of Olive Oil and several spices. There were the usual pots, pans , plates etc. but no microwave. There is a small kitchen table and 3 kitchen chairs.
There is a double bed and my wife and I weighing 158 lb and 165 lbs respectively was able to fit. If two of you are of larger size it will be a tight fit. There is a air mattress available for one person . The bathroom was clean and towels were supplied. There is a Wall Street Journal newspaper at the door steps each morning. A couple of days it was hot and humid and Roger supplied a box fan.
Over all , we were pleased with our stay at Home Away from Home . It certainly was much more affordable to stay there than at a Hotel. The ability to cook over 60 % of our meals kept our cost down. We would stay there again.
We spent a very Nice Time in NY. Roger's flat is very convénient, closed to the tube, supermarket, spacious, And very clean. The Little default is the noise from the street in the morning of week days.
Roger welcomed us very Well. He showed us all the facilities And équipements. There was some food let for us, And a lift to go to the station.
Have a nice trip!
Roger is a great host. He was always quick to reply and made my stay at his apartment pleasant.
Staying at Roger's was one of the highlight of my days in NYC. The place was tidy and welcoming. The floor is warm, the bed is comfortable, the shower is a waterfall and the furniture is with taste, even if it's just made out of few pieces. The real plus and the main reason why you should go to Roger is, however, Roger himself: a wonderful and kind host full of stories and local knowledge. The neighbourhood is very inspiring and pretty safe even if it could seem a bit intimidating for a newcomer. But don't worry at all - Brooklyn has changed and you'll be able to wander even late nights without running into any trouble. Just be smart :) Well.. go Roger, go Brooklyn!
