Reece Lyerly is Sustainability Director at Greenville Forward and Director of Gardening for Good. He is responsible for implementing the strategic plan of Gardening for Good by establishing a network and resource center for community gardens in Greenville County. This includes visiting and consulting local gardens, developing an educational curriculum and resource center for community gardens, connecting volunteers to gardens efforts and providing healthy food options to disadvantaged communities in the area. As the inaugural director of Gardening for Good, Reece is excited to see the network shaped and formed as many turn to gardening as a mode of community development and revitalization in Greenville.
Originally from Roswell, GA, Reece now considers himself a fellow Greenvillian due to his recent residency in the city after four (email hidden)ece graduated from Furman in May 2011 with a BA in Earth and Environmental Sciences. Through his studies and extra-curricular activities, he discovered his integrated passions for sustainability, public health and social justice, leading him to his position with Gardening for Good today.
Reece is a field leader for Society of St. Andrew Gleaning Network, where he leads teams to harvest overripe crops from farms in the Upstate to donate to local food banks. In his spare time, Reece enjoys reading, baking bread, hiking, biking on the Swamp Rabbit trail, listening to bluegrass music and most of all: community gardening!
