I'm originally from Canada but have been living in Europe for 14 years - in London, Edinburgh, Lyon, Brussels, Barcelona and Turin, before finally coming back to London for work in late 2012.
I work as a project manager on EU-funded projects on sustainable transport and urban mobility, specifically with the goal of reducing car use and making cities more liveable. One of the key focuses of my work is promoting active travel, ie cycling and walking, and to exchanging best practices between different cities and countries around Europe and the rest of the world.
Being from Western Canada, the mountains and the outdoors are a big passion for me. I love hiking, and cycling obviously, and in the winter do some snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. I'm a huge cinema fan and when my work schedule allows, I try to see a film at least once a week. I also go to yoga and have done several meditation courses, though unfortunately I'm not finding the time to do much of it lately! Another of my passions is photography, though again I don't get to spend as much time on it as I would like.
I'm also very interested in social and environmental issues (hence my line of work) and try to live as sustainably as possible. I also try to eat organic, local / seasonal, and natural products whenever I can.
My work provides me with a lot of opportunities to travel, and I frequently like to stay with AirBnB hosts, as I often find hotels to be too sterile and impersonal. As a former CouchSurfer, I also frequently use AirBnB for personal travel as it has that same sense of community and camaraderie, but without being in a sleeping bag on a couch!
