This was my first Air B&B experience and I couldn't have been more pleased with my stay. Waking up every morning on the bay was truly an amazing experience. The description is true in that, if you are an adventurist looking to try something new and exciting, this is the place for you. It's essentially like camping on the water with actual facilities and I would gladly stay on the boat again during my next visit.
As far as the host, Ryan will probably be the coolest host you will ever come across. He was incredibly helpful and I am forever grateful to him for showing me around and providing me with tips about the city. He was convincing enough to have me consider moving to Seattle.
I had a great time on the boat altough the weather was rainy and cold, thanks Ryan for your perfect hospitality! Hope to see you here one day...
Ryan is an awesome guy. He makes you feel welcome since the moment you meeting him. His boat is a nice place to crash after a long day of sight seen. It is quiet, relaxing and cozy. I only spend an afternoon with Ryan, but that was enough to see he is nice and trustworthy. Overall, I had a nice experience staying in his boat and when I get the chance I will do it again. Thank you Ryan and I wish you the best!
Ryan is a great host - very informative and ensures that all things go as planned. I highly recommend, it is a beautiful spot on the water.
For me to be inside a watercraft with accommodations for people to live in have been a dream I’ve cherished all of my life. As far as I can remember I have had this strong desire of experiencing maritime life.
So I booked my reservation and waited anxiously for a confirmation. When it came I couldn’t believe my luck ha ha you might think how silly… really??? Seriously!!!
Well that’s the honest truth :D I got so excited, I couldn’t wait to be there.
From the beginning, Ryan took good care of all the communications pertinent to my stay. He gave me directions how to get there from SEA-TAC which I followed very easily. Once in the neighborhood he even offered to pick me up from nearby Ballard.
At first contact I didn’t get any negative feelings or vibe about him, on the contrary, immediately I knew he was a laid back kind of guy, sun tanned skin, barefoot, t-shirt and Bermuda shorts; I felt relaxed.
On our way to the marina he gave me a mini tour of the surroundings and the ABC about Ballard (the closest town) which I appreciated.
When we arrived at the Shilshole Bay Marina I was very pleased, it’s big, beautiful and clean.
To me every boat is precious, obviously some more than others, I just happened to like his instantly. For no reason I expected it to be a bigger boat, probably because I’ve never been inside one and I tend to let my imagination fly too often ;) but again, all that he describes in his profile is completely true and accurate. He explained to me all that I needed to know about staying in his place.
Some nights and days we coincided to be in the boat and some others we didn’t, but for those we did I had a great time getting to know each other. Ryan is a good soul, down to earth, respectful, considerate, he appears to be trustworthy and a great host; I enjoyed his company the whole time.
My first experience in Seattle will stay with me for ever, thanks in big part to Ryan and his boat; they made my dream come true.
After a stay of 5 days I can tell you this, the marina itself is awesome, well maintained, clean, and very secure. Plus the location is FANTASTIC!
Keep in mind that Ryan is a bachelor and his boat is his pad. The boat is truly a charm, really! But with no modern amenities. If you like camping out, then you’ll enjoy your stay here, since the only difference is that everything is contained in this “floating campsite” as he calls it, and I agree completely with that description.
Now, for those of you that are browsing the many options in Seattle and are considering this one, make no mistake, if you or somebody with you is high maintenance and used to white glove treatment, or have an Adrian Monk-like personality, let it be known that this accommodation is not rated 5 stars, or even 2 and quite honestly this place is not for you.
If somehow your mobility is restricted or your balance is less than normal I would recommend you look elsewhere.
If you have big plans for cooking while staying here, you must be a creative and patient cook. There is a 2 burner alcohol stove and a very limited supply of cooking utensils and tableware. A tiny sink to wash the dishes and no blender nor refrigerator; instead you will find a small icebox.
Even though, none of this restricted me from enjoying every single one of these features. I did some light cooking and dish-washing and it was an awesome experience. This place promotes appreciation for everything and increases human warmth.
Ryan and his boat are a perfect fit for youngsters, adventurers, dreamers, romantics, artists, and unpretentious people. Those that like to be surprised at the turn of every corner are the ones that will enjoy every minute spent “On the water in Seattle”
it was one of great time in my life!
we really had great great time in ryan's boat!
he is awesome and cool guy.
he taught how to use it about boat, we could use well!
if you want to have special experience, I recommend strongly!
ps. specially, night view while I lay on the blanket(?) was awesome!
My daughter and I had just one night in Seattle and thought staying on a boat would be an adventure. Ryan was a great host and helped us with everything we needed. The boat was comfortable, the weather beautiful... my only complaint was that it was a bit too calm that night, and I couldn't really tell I was on a boat!
Ryan met us at the dock and was really helpful. We loved staying on the boat.
We expected and were looking forward to "camping" on a small boat. What we did not expect was that the boat was not being maintained, was dirty, kitchen sink clogged, toilet leaking with toilet water under the wooden floor "rug". Cluttered with open storage of personal gear and groceries.
Ryan asked us not to open hatch over bed because it had leaked and was siliconed shut. Hot. No ventilation.
Stayed one miserable night. Left him a not with address for refund for two more days. Never heard from him.
Highly....do not recommend.
Don't get sucked in on this one.
Last minute res, Ryan was busy but took time out to make sure I was situated and understood everything about the boat. Great times! Thanks Ryan!
Nice person to talk to - he took airport transfer service and I did not even realize how fast we got to the apartment. Left the apartment nice and clean. Would have him back any time.
Ryan has been a very nice guest, super clean and respectful with the apartment and perfect communication. I definatly recommend him !
Ryan...are you really gone???
I think we were good friends in a past life or maybe husband and wife cause I really felt like he's always been in my life!
He easily hanged out with my friends and family and everybody just loves him!
Come back home Ryan! :)
Ryan is extremely helpful and trustworthy. I've known him for some time and even had him as a houseguest myself, he was tidy and fun to host!
Ryan is genuine, fun and extremely easygoing. He is actively open-minded and is always down for anything.
