I love Nola's Lil Arc and it is one of the sweetest places I have ever stayed, but I do have one caveat for prospective renters. First, Belinda is a wonderful, welcoming host. The cottage itself could not be more charming. Every detail is sweet (I love the musical instrument lighting fixtures and art), the kitchen is well equipped, and she has left many recommendations, tips, maps, guides and other helpful things for visitors. My only warning is that the location is geographically good (close to French Quarter, Treme, Bywater, Marigny) but in an area which makes it desolate at night or in the rain. You can count on Carol, the truly great cab driver, to get you around, but other cab drivers might have a problem finding the place. I don't recommend a night arrival like I did. You need to have your bearings before you wander out. The crime rate is widely noted , so this is not a paranoid personal fear. Signs everywhere say not to walk alone. With that in mind, pack some food and booze for the kitchen if you need to stay in (or grab something for your first night if you have a late arrival) - it's a happy experience. During the day, you are very well located to see everything and the location makes more sense. Overall, I loved the cottage, Belinda, Carol, the dogs and of course New Orleans (!) but could see that some folks would have trouble with the location. I live in a San Francisco neighborhood that also has its blocks that you know to avoid at late hours, but New Orleans is much more of a night town. Just be forewarned and have a fabulous time.
The house was as described; tastefully decorated and very well equipped. A calm oasis away from the chaos of Bourbon Street and the madness of the very touristy French Quarter.
Belinda was exceptionally helpful in providing advice on local spots to eat and enjoy jazz music. As mentioned by others, the neighborhood is in transition but we did not have any issues. It is walking distance to the French Quarter and Frenchmen Street which was very convenient.
Overall, an excellent experience and highly recommend!
Belinda was there to greet us which was a friendly start to our wonderful stay! The Arc was spotless, comfortable, had everything we could possibly need, and was a lovely home for our fun stay in New Orleans. Belinda provided great information about neighborhood restaurants and sites.
The neighborhood felt a little unsafe at times, but is fine if you keep your wits about you. We felt much better taking taxis at night. Besides that, it's a great location-- a short, pleasant walk to the Quarter and Frenchman St, and well positioned to explore the Marigny, Treme, and Bywater.
We absolutely loved staying at the Arc! Belinda is such a thorough host and had everything ready and waiting for our arrival. She was kind enough to meet us at the residence upon checking in and gave us a tour of the house, as well as a quick glance at the visitor's guide binder she has compiled that is full of maps, sightseeing recommendations, restaurants and bars.
The house is fully stocked with anything you may need for your stay, like light snacks, cooking supplies and toiletries. Even the light switches are labeled, which is really helpful for people who are in an unfamiliar place.
The neighborhood is a little rough around the edges, but we never felt unsafe. It is within walking distance to Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter, which was a very nice benefit.
If we ever find ourselves in NOLA, we would gladly be hosted by Belinda again!
Belinda was very accommodating and welcoming. We loved staying at Nola's Arc and would definitely try to stay there again if we ever find our way back to New Orleans. We felt very safe in the area and the proximity to the French Quarter was amazing. Great place!!
Belinda was a wonderful host! The condo was stylishly decorated and stocked with everything we could have needed. Also very clean! Belinda was perfectly on time with check-in/check-out and we so appreciated her binders of what to do/see/eat while in New Orleans. The parking on the street was free and very convenient. We never had trouble finding a spot. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would absolutely stay again at Nola's lil arc next time we are in New Orleans!
Nola's Arc was perfect! It's just as pictured. I can't say enough great things. The location is ideal since it's right next to the nightlife on Frenchman St., the French Quarter, and Tremé, but also a bit tucked away from the tourists and nightlife.
I wish there were a Belinda in every city.
NOLA's Lil Arc was an amazing place to stay and Belinda was a great host. Belinda made us feel welcome and was a phone call away to provide recommendations on what to do on a particular day/night.
Belinda's place is better than the pictures, and is beautifully decorated with great local art pieces (the light fittings are the coolest I've ever seen!)
All the information and guidance Belinda provided made our stay great. It also made us realise we will need to return to New Orleans to experience all of these recommendations.
We'll definitely be looking to stay again on our return.
Also please book Carol to pick you and take you back to the Airport. Carol is so much fun and probably the best taxi driver I've had anywhere!
We stayed at NOLA's ARC for six nights for our first ever visit to New Orleans, and it was absolutely lovely. Belinda is a very thoughtful and attentive host who made us feel welcome and well taken care of. The house is cozy, beautiful, meticulously clean, and fully stocked with everything we needed. The neighborhood is as described - walking distance to the cool spots, but certainly in transition. Just follow Belinda's advice about walking routes and taking cabs at night, and you'll be good to go. Definitely check out the great dining suggestions in her guidebook, and DEFINITELY call Carol when you need a ride to/from the airport. She's a doll! Thanks Belinda for a great experience!
The Lil Arc proved to be an ideal place to stay in New Orleans! Belinda was a great host. We arrived at about 1:30 am, after some epic flight delays. I felt badly for making her be up so late, but she was all smiles. She even gave us a lift over to Frenchman St!
The house itself is really beautiful. Its wonderfully adorned with antique furniture and repurposed wood on the ceiling. The bed is incredibly comfortable, and the shower is really nice. The surrounding neighborhood is pretty nicely situated. Its a quick walk to the French Quarter, but you're away from the madness. You're also right in the Marigny, and relatively close to the Bywater, which are really great areas to walk around and get a bite to eat in. A perfect mid point between the tourist zone and many off the beaten path places. We fell in love with New Orleans and the Lil Arc and hope to come back to both!
These apartments and studio are newly fitted, stylish and impeccably kept. Linen, towels, cutlery, crockery, furniture are all top quality and Belinda generously stocks the rooms with fresh supplies and condiments. I stayed in the studio and had absolutely everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The location is fantastic. True New Orleans; full of character, short riding distance to attractions, yet quiet with community feeling. The dogs are clean, mellow, well behaved (didn't hear them bark once) and cute and stick with Belinda and out of your way unless you want to pay them attention. Incredible large back yard with hammock and outdoor table, lush lawn. I honestly couldn't imagine a better area to stay and better value for money. Additionally, Belinda is full of local insight, and one of the nicest, witty, talented people one could meet.
The location of this place is outstanding! I stayed here while my house was being remodeled for about 3 months. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. I still park there when I am going into the French Quarter, best kept secret. The place I rented was impeccable and with top notch fixtures.
Belinda was an awesome landlord and her dogs are very nice and friendly. I highly recommend this place!!
ps- great location for walking around and riding your bike throughout the city. Blocks away from the French Quarter, nearby city park, just can't beat it.
Ohh and I had a hard time convincing my dog to come home after staying there, he loved Belinda and the place!
I stayed at Belinda's house November. Her home is immaculate, with modern facilities in a lovely period house. Highly recommended, about ten minutes or so walking distance to the French quarter. Belinda is helpful and friendly. It was a lovely experience, and her dogs are adorable and not noisy. I'm looking forward to visiting again soon. New Orleans is so wonderful. Belinda is a jazz musician and knows all the best places to go. I felt quite safe walking around Treme, the locals are very friendly.
