My husband and I had a great stay at this lovely working vineyard. The setting is rustic, beautiful and quiet. The bed and bath facilities are basic but very comfortable. The Maes family (Yvette and Michel) were very warm and welcoming and we were able to communicate well in my limited French, and Yvette's very good English. We appreciated Yvette's flexibility with our erratic breakfast schedule, and the view from the covered patio where we ate breakfast most days was incredible. The location is great, and it was easy to get around with our rental car. Although St. Ourens is tiny, restaurants, gas and groceries are readily available in nearby towns. One thing to note: it is difficult to map the exact address online. We were a little concerned about finding the place, but if you find the town of St. Ourens, you cannot miss the (email hidden)e town is tiny and the Chateau is right on the main road with prominent signs.
We would stay again and would recommend the Chateau St. Ourens to anyone looking for an down-to-earth, authentic Bordeaux experience at a working vineyard.
Yvette & Michel are a lovely couple and made our stay in Bordeaux fantastic. Four of us comfortably stayed at their house, and were spoiled with delicious home made preserves and bread for breakfast both mornings. The rooms were big & had comfortable beds in a beautiful home on their vineyards. If you stay with them make sure you buy some of their wine because its delicious!
We had a very good time at Michel and Yvette's house! The rooms were large and comfortable and Michel and Yvette were lovely hosts, helpful and welcoming.
We were shown around the vineyards and were invited in on some wine tasting of their lovely wine. They seem happy to share their knowledge which was very interesting to us.
Breakfast was good with home made produce.
We had an enjoyable stay with a very generous host and hostess.
Staying with the family Maes is truly sharing their home. As we arrived late on a Sunday night we were invited to share their simple bread, pate and cheese dinner rather than eating out. The children were taken on a tour around the vineyard by Michel.
The home is old and a good representation of how country people live. Yvette makes her own jams and sauces and shares graciously with her guests. She also is a great source of information on what to visit in Bordeaux.
