My stay at the Slow Living Cottage was amazing. Marlis was very welcoming and greeted us when we arrived. She showed us around the cottage and gave some quick but very helpful local recommendations. She then retreated to her house adjacent to the cottage giving my girlfriend and I the privacy we wanted for the entire duration of our stay. The Slow Living Cottage was just what we were looking for and is even cuter in person. We can't thank Marlis enough!
Thank you Chris! You and Anita take good care.-M
I had the most remarkable time at Marlis' Slow Living Cabin for the last 2 weeks! My expectations were already high and the experience was even better than I had hoped. Marlis is an inviting, kind and attentive owner. She greeted me when I first arrived and I felt at ease right away. She has a gently energy and a deep love for the land that the cabin is siting on.
The cabin is very private and beautiful and there are lovely perennials and forests surrounding it. I could not imagine a better place to stay in Western NC for the solitude, peace and scenery. Also, it is situated only 20 minutes from Asheville and yet many great hikes and the Blueridge Parkway are only 30 minutes away. And there are some delicious restaurants over the French Broad River in Weaverville.
The hot tub was the icing on the cake! I got in at least once a day and my sore muscles from hiking were soothed and I slept beautifully. Marlis was very helpful whenever I needed anything and her spirit is so peaceful. I highly recommend this place. You won't find a better place!
Aww...Rip, you are the sweetest! Thank you for bringing YOUR lovely energy to 'Slow Living Cottage'. Take care, -until another (website hidden).: I enjoyed all of the yummy organic fruits and vegies that you left with me.
We had a wonderful time at the Slow Living Cottage! It's absolutely beautiful, a work of art snuggled into a beautifully wildscaped woodsy setting in rural Leicester. We felt absolutely safe and comfortable. We enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels and enjoying a fire on a beautiful spring evening. It was an inspirational stay for us as we got away from our daily life. Marlis was a wonderful host and we hope to visit again very soon.
Thanks so much Jane and Brad. And yes, I also hope that you come back for more painting and 'Slow Living'. Best wishes, -Marlis
The place was very beautiful, very clean, a secluded little spot with wildflowers all over. Marlice was a very welcoming host. Perfect for doing some of the trails in the area.
The slow living cottage in the mountains is exactly that - the perfect place to get away for some rest and relaxation. Marlis has created the perfect cozy home away from home! She provided us some fantastic recommendations on local restaurants, hikes, and activities. Great house, great host! Can't wait to go back! -Dave and Jen
Dave and Jen, so nice to meet you both! Come back any time.
Take good care, -Marlis
If you are looking for a private retreat in a tiny house full of nature surrounding you this is the perfect spot. Marlis was there to welcome us and show us around, but despite her home being right above the rental you didn't even know she was there. I wouldn't plan on making big meals there as it is a limited kitchen selection but doable for small meals. Might help to have microwaveable plates though since there is a microwave. The tiny house is about 20 minutes outside Asheville, and pretty easy to get to many locations in area. Marlis offers many guide books, a walking service as well as someone to come in for massages. You may want to know there is no room separations so really only intended for a couple if looking for any privacy inside, plenty outside. It was a peaceful retreat to return to at the end of each days hiking and the hot tub was a perk.
The place couldn't have been more perfect and neither could have Marlis. She greeted us so warmly and made our stay comfortable and welcoming, including the wonderful coffee she left us! The hot tub and fire pit were perfect under the falling snow and the cottage was cozy, clean, and so incredibly comfy. Thank you Marlis! We will return.
The cottage is exactly as described, set in a wooded valley, amongst the sounds and sights of unspoiled nature. The place was clean comfortable and private, it felt like we were out in the sticks, but civilisation was a mere 20 minute drive. Marlis was hospitable without being invasive, showing us the run of the facilities and leaving us to it..
Thank you Brendan, take good care. -Marlis
We had such a wonderful time at the Slow Living Cottage! The space that Marlis created is just so lovely and peaceful. The cottage is efficiently laid out, with anything you might need for a wonderful time, whether it be bird seed, cooking tools, or wine glasses. The hot tub outside is a huge bonus. Marlis was a great host and gave us some terrific ideas for our one evening. We loved Asheville and cannot wait to go back, but we loved simply being in the cottage just as much.
Thanks Steven, and all the best to you and Lydia. -M.
Marlis was a fantastic and very accommodating host. A snow storm was due to hit the area around our check in time and Marlis adjusted her schedule so that we could arrive earlier in the day. The cottage was perfect for my wife and I on our honeymoon; it was cozy and expertly crafted. 12 hours of ice and snow forced us to stay inside but the cottage was so nice that we didn't really mind. Sadly, we had to cut our stay short because of more inclement winter weather that was on the way, but Marlis refunded us for the days that we were going to miss. Also, she called local transportation services to make sure it was safe to exit, and she even hiked around the neighborhood to make sure the ice had melted so that we could get out of town without any troubles. We greatly enjoyed our time and cannot wait to come back when the weather warms up so that we can experience all that the Asheville area has to offer.
Thanks Jeffrey, perhaps we will see you back at 'Slow Living Cottage' for your six month anniversary when the weather is more pleasant! Best, -M.
