Romano, 37 years old, I love traveling and my historic house..
Carlo Leone is an amazing host running an amazing property. He was prompt in communicating before reservation, before and upon our arrival, kindly showed us around, kindly accepted our bunch (including our dog), explained everything we were interested in, provided everything we asked for, gave us suggestions regarding the city (places to park, fun places for children etc)... Support that makes you feel like a friend not just a guest.
This place! Just wonderful. It is an entirely unique space with a FANTASTIC host. Well worth the visit - the history and the space simply oozes peacefulness. In addition to a beautiful pool, there is a hammock and a swing for whiling away some hours reading if you want a break.. situated between olive trees.
Carlo Leone was truly a spectacular host; he went above and beyond during our stay, introducing us to the area, taking us on a guided tour around the property, making reservations at a nearby restaurant, and making sure we had everything we needed for our comfort.
p.s. there were few-week old puppies in the backyard to add the charm of the place.. :-)
This is a really unique and beautiful place. Carlo met us promptly and gave us a tour of the convent and the grounds, followed by a wonderful dinner recommendation. A really serene and beautiful place untouched by time. Highly recommended.
We've had a really nice time at "Il Conventino". We arrived late at night and Leo wasn't there but he arranged everything with his mother who gave us all the information we needed. That same night Leo called us to ask if everything was ok, which we really could appreciate. We were really impressed by the house (check the artwork!) and liked the fact that we could escape the busy (but beautiful) Rome and enjoy some time at the lovely pool. The apartment provides everything we needed and is very spacious. The bathroom is small but that didn't bother us. A few days later we finally met Leo and found out that he is a warm and very friendly host. Our last night, he invited us for a dinner with his friends in a nice traditional restaurant not far from Mentana. Staying at "Il Conventino" means meeting the real Roman people and lifestyle and this was what we wanted! If we go back to Rome, we certainly will return to Leo's house.
Amazing place at the doorstep of Rome. The apartment was nicely kept as well as the garden and swimmingpool which were just amazing. Smooth check in and out, Carlo is a very relaxed host who promptly explained my group where the barbecue was and gave us good tips on what to do in the surroundings. The highllight was the nearby brewery (Birrificio Turbacci) where we got superb beer and food, even a discount for been at Conventino... Great price/quality ratio... Looking forward to coming back...
Great way to visit Rome with kids!
We stayed here six nights with our young children (2 and 4 years old). For us it was the perfect way to visit Rome with children because you can relax away from the busy city. The conventino is private and quiet, with a huge, fantastic garden and a beautiful swimming pool. The garden is completely enclosed and has lots of opportunities to play for kids. There is even a large trampoline, and there are chickens and a friendly dog. There are little corners to sit, as well as a BBQ area. The conventino itself looks absolutely stunning. We spent two days hanging out by the pool, and three days in Rome.
The apartment, which has lots of character, is basic but it has everything you need. There is only one bedroom but there was plenty of space to accommodate two mats for the kids. The apartment was certainly spacious enough for our family. The bathroom was not as clean as I would have expected but other than that everything was fine. The washing machine came in handy. As a previous reviewer suggested it is a good idea to bring mosquito spray!
There's a supermarket and a bakery within 5 mins walking distance. We were by car and drove into Rome (30 mins). Mentana itself is a bit run down and the walk to the centre is not very nice, so I personally wouldn't recommend it.
Leo was very friendly and easy to communicate with. He was quick to provide us with extra stuff we asked for (eg. more towels). He called in several times during our stay to ask whether we needed anything, which we really appreciated.
Noi ci ritorneremo sicuramente! Perfetto anche per i bambini!!!
Our stay at Conventino was wonderful! The house, the park, the swimmingpool were amazing and in very good conditions! Live is even better than in pictures. I suggest it for a Rome vacation or also for somebody passing by (is very near to the highway). We will for sure come back again! it is also perfect for families with children!
Looking for a different experience next time you visit Rome? Then the Conventino in Menta may be for you. First opened in 1610, the property is as charming and minimalist as the photos depict, a restoration project still in the works yet brushed with modern conveniences such as the new pool. Leo was very communicative and helpful, both from a check in perspective, as well as making sure we were comfortable during our visit. Furthermore, the apartment is exactly as described, including the photos. Our only key advice to future travelers would be to pack mosquito spray and prepare to keep the shutters/windows closes during the summer high heat season, as there is no air conditioning. Rome is a short 45 minutes away by bus, so this property is perfect for the traveler looking for a quiet retreat to offset the business of Rome. Mentana itself is a small but charming town. There were no other tourists and we happened to stumble upon an amazing restaurant called Trattoria Dall’Abruzzese, a local eater located near the town church/castle with no website or reviews, but one of the best meals we had on our trip (no menu, no English, just sit down and let the food/wine come based upon whatever is on hand!) We would definitely visit Leo and Conventino again
We arrived and Carlo was already waiting for us with his dog and show us the hole property.
It is a really nice house with a big garden and a lot of interesting things to explore.
We had a really nice and clean flat in his house, with a big kitchen and a big living room. He did book as well a table in a great restaurant in the middle of Rom for us.
I really can recommend it and I will defenitly go again and stay with him.
Carlo è stato un'ospite perfetto!
