I am a sociologist at Indiana University, Bloomington. I've written books on Black Power & the emergence of Black Studies, the protest movement against the Iraq War, and how to survive academic grad school. In the IU Sociology Department, I teach the intro course, Economic Sociology, and Social Theory. Otherwise, I'm with my spouse, 6-year-old daughter, and almost-2-year-old son. I love Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy, Woody Shaw, & Wayne Shorter; dragging my children to art exhibits; and kvetching over Philadelphia sports teams.
