Silvia and Oliver were delightful guests. I wish I had more time to visit with them. They were polite and neat. I'm so glad they were open to juicing the very ripe, fresh grapefruit and oranges we have on property. and that they took the time to walk the botanical gardens here. It shows they were open to the Kauai experience and that is a pleasure to be a part of.
Silvia and Olivier were great guests. They were fun, friendly and full of great stories. They live in Switzerland just a few miles from the German border which they cross regularly to pick up their favorite German beers. We enjoyed their company so much that we convinced them to stay two extra nights. Silvia and Olivier both work for Lufthansa Airlines. Silvia is involved in the technical aspects of pilot interface. Olivier was a pilot but became bored with it so now he is in sales. Olivier told us some great stories about the time he lived in South Carolina. He was literally shot down by the father of a woman he was courting. He had thrown a bouquet of flowers to her from the low flying aircraft he was piloting in a romantic gesture. Her father grabbed his gun and began shooting at the plane. Olivier was able to land the plane safely as its fuel spilled out from the numerous holes inflicted by the protective father. There was also the time when he was forced to defend himself against a rattlesnake that was beneath his bed. He still has the rattle at home. Silvia entertained us on the ukulele and enjoyed the use of the pool. They even presented us with a guestbook the night before they checked out. We’ve been meaning to pick up a guestbook for our guests to sign but we never found one that we like. We now have one that we love. They were, of course, the first to sign it. We had guests in from Oahu (Keala and Brad) when Silvia and Olivier arrived and other guests in from San Francisco (Anthony and Peggy) when they checked out. Silvia and Peggy made a huge bowl of guacamole which we managed to finish off after only two days. They boarded a sunrise lava boat tour on the third day. Apparently, it was a pretty rough ride. Although they didn’t get to see lava pouring into the ocean, they got some spectacular views of the Kalapana area where numerous major lava flows have occurred over the past few decades. They also visited Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park where they did some hiking. We highly recommend hosting Silvia and Olivier and would love to host them again the next time they find themselves in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Thank you, Silvia and Olivier. We can’t wait to visit you in Switzerland.
