When I arrived some of the bed linen was still wet in the washing machine and the rest was still dirty on the bed - waiting to be washed! Rubbish was not removed and there was a terrible stench in the toilet because of dirty and still wet mop. I ended up spending my first night in Paris in a 2 Star hotel (with no air conditioner during a hot August night!) not far from Jean-Christophe apartment. The apartment itself is quite small, the bedroom is so small - I had to keep the door open - there was simply not enough room or air for even 1 person, not to mention there is no air-conditioning in the bedroom. Jean-Christophe actually lives there - so all his clothes and stuff is everywhere including both a suitcase and a large duffle bag in the tiny entrance hall. When I arrived to the apartment the WiFi was not working, air-conditioner was not working either - you have to unplug the washing machine power cable from the only power socket in the bathroom and plug in the charred air conditioner power cable, you see. The WiFi in the apartment never worked - you have to use a neighbour's WiFi! Things like WiFi and air-conditioning on a hot night are critical and Jean-Christophe could have told me how to fix all these before I showed up - but he did not! In general, I have had a lot of problems communicating with Jean-Christophe since he is riding a bike and whatever, so I quickly run out of my mobile phone credit (due to high roaming charges) and with no internet I was not a happy man! I could only communicate with Jean-Christophe once I checked in into a nearby hotel over their WiFi. Jean-Christophe asked me to dry the wet linen on the top of open toilet and bathroom doors, which I did. next day I washed the rest of the dirty linen and waited till like midnight until it was dry enough for me to sleep on. So during my 3 days in Paris I spent a considerable amount of time worrying and doing housekeeping, not to mention, I had to roll my 2 suitcases to and from the hotel etc. You can't hear street noise from within the apartment (providing the windows are closed of course!), but you can hear the neighbours. Also you need to run air conditioner during hot weather in the living room (which generates a considerable amount of noise) and leave the bedroom door open during the night time. There is an unpleasant smell in the apartment building itself. The street was full of trash. Apart from all that, the location is good - there are cafes, metro station, a small supermarket (and a hotel should you need one!) nearby. You can walk to Notre Dame which I did in like 12 minutes. If you're still reading this - I will sum up: I have stayed in dozens...
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Paris, Jeans apparently was great, in the perfect location and we look forward to coming back again.
Jean-Christophe was a great host. The appartment was clean and comfortable. It is located in my favorite "cartier" in Paris. Lovely! Great place to stay!
Jean Christophe apartment is really nice. The strongest point is it is very well located and comfortable to move easily trough Paris cause it has a very near metro station. The neighborhood is nice, one of the most popular places to stay in the city, and the apartment street is specially quiet, so noise will never be a problem. We highly recommend it as very comfortable for two people. We also want to mention the good availability of internet (fast!), and the fact that Jean left a computer for us to use in case we need. Internet is always fundamental for foreigners and is not easy to find a cheap place with it working well.
Also take note the apartment has elevator!! ;)
Location, location, location! Its superb location makes the flat a really good choice among the others. 5 min walk from Notredame, 2 min from Île de Saint-Louis, 5 min from Rue Mouffetard, where you have lots of restaurants.
The flat has one double bedroom, which fits only the double bed, and a sofa-bed at the living room, which I found very comfortable. My sister stayed in the bedroom and also enjoyed it. It is really nice for 2 people. I’m just not sure if 4 people could fit inside the flat comfortably.
Communicating with the host was an issue. You have to wait a few days for a reply. Also, he committed to call us twice for the key arrangement, but in the end, I had to make the call!
Another downside was the fact that there were dirty and smelly dishes inside the washing machine. Not sure if it was from the last guest or the host, but someone could have started the machine before leaving. The smell was horrible. Also, there were dirty dishes inside the cupboard. We didn’t mind washing them again. Apart from that, the experience was great and I would recommend it!
Jean-Christophe has been very gentle and at our disposal. He also booked a very nice restaurant for our dinner. The apartment is cozy and nice, very central, a few minutes from Notre Dame, location was perfect for us! There are 2 metro stop very close to the apartment. I will definitely go back there for my next parisienne holiday!!!
This is a very nice small apartment with a terrific location. No view, but close to the Seine, Notre Dame, and public transport. Away from traffic on a small dead-end street, the place is extremely quiet, extraordinarily so for Paris. The main living room has a nice futon sofa-bed, small kitchen, breakfast bar, and built-in working desk/cabinetry. Other rooms are a very small bedroom, a combined laundry/cleaning supplies/shower room, and a separate toilet. We found Jean-Christophe very easy to deal with, and communications were good, by text or by cell-phone. There is a 27" iMac on the desk, a wired/wireless router, and other A/V stuff.
The second room for sleeping was very nice, although it isn't air conditioned. like the main room. A cleaning lady was there when we checked in, and she gave us the keys. The leak in the kitchen has been repaired! However, there were other issues with the equipment there. The clothes dryer never worked, the microwave oven is still totally dead, the shower drain was clogged, and the air conditioner stopped working just before we left. We were able to unclog the shower, and I think that's the kind of thing that guests here should expect to do, also you should expect to make a little extra effort for check-in and check-out.
For the price, you can't expect a reception desk and an on-call engineering service. This is actually Jean-Christophe's personal residence most of the time, according to the neighbors, which explains the very high level of technology equipment there (also a lot of his other stuff) . Just be respectful and understanding, and Jean-Christophe will do his best while at the same time apparently holding down a professional position in advertising or similar. His response to most of my inquiries was to acknowledge the problem and offer to reimburse my out-of-pocket expenses. He'd pay for laundry done around the corner, he'd reimburse my cost for a plumbing snake to fix the drain, etc. I didn't feature spending my time in Paris running around finding a plumbing supplies store, but things were OK for us and the problems didn't end up being a big deal.
I think future visitors should expect equipment problems in general, based on my experience and other reviews. Still, for the price we were really happy there, and I didn't let it bother me that I had to hang my laundry out on the chairs and doors to dry.
However, others should verify that the air conditioning is working, as it's crucial to a pleasant stay this hot summer. To be explicit, the air conditioning works only in the main room, not in any other room, in particular not in the extra bedroom. My daughter didn't mind, though.
Overall, we had a great stay with just some minor glitches.
Jean-Christophe and his apartment were both superb. He was really nice throughout the booking process and even helped us find our way to his place once we were in Paris. His apartment is very nice and in a great location. We were very pleased with our experience. Thank you, Jean-Christophe!
We picked this place because out of the narrow search results of Paris apartments that were family friendly (we were traveling with a 9 month old) and had air conditioning, this one was well located and relatively inexpensive. We loved the beautiful light, that there was an elevator available (very necessary with our stroller), how close it was to the Seine and Notre Dame and several Metro stops. However, Jean-Christophe was very spotty in his communication and the apartment did have some issues. The check in process was very unclear and if we had not had the use of an international phone, we would not have been able to get in (the morning of our arrival, Jean-Christophe let me know that we had to call him upon arrival so he could call his neighbor to let us in). When we got in, sheets, pillowcases and duvets were in a pile on the bed -- I had to call Jean-Christophe to double check they were clean and he said that they were washed (they were still slightly damp) and apologized for not being able to make the bed. Not a great start. He also mentioned there were clean towels in the bathroom, but those were also still damp and were very mildewed. When an AirBnB listing charges a cleaning fee, I expect the place to be clean. In addition to the unmade bed and mildewed towels, we found the floors were dusty and the electric range not clean. I actually tried to use the dust vacuum to clean up a bit but found that it was not working well because it was completely clogged with dust. As another user mentioned, there was a leak in the kitchen the entirety of our stay. I emailed Jean-Christophe about this and about the broken microwave oven and received no response. Some other information about the apartment and neighborhood would have been useful, such as pointing out the switch that closes the metal gate on the window/balconette, how to check in/check out and how to use the washer in the bathroom. The bedroom is tiny, it pretty much only fits the bed. We actually decided to sleep on the pull out couch since it was in the living room with the AC and used the bedroom for luggage storage. Our stay was overall fine, but would have been made a lot smoother and more comfortable with a little more care from the host.
Jean-Christophe was a great guest and left the apartment in an excellent condition. He was very easy to communicate with and kept in contact. It was nice to host him and he will be always welcomed back :-) I highly recommend him as a guest.
Jean-Christophe and his friends were very polite guests and they left my apartment in acceptable shape but not exactly as requested in my house rules. I'd be happy to welcome them back another time of they need a place in NYC again. Thank you for your stay!
It's a gr8 guy .... Very communicative and a great talents for photography . It was a pleasure to meet him!
Super appart et super Jean-Christophe (aussi) 3
