Well, Airbnb strikes again! The Lodge is pretty special. I just spent a week with Wolle and the crew and I couldn't have enjoyed it more.
When you stay here, you are really in the jungle. It's all around , from the trees, the ants and the constant babble of the howler monkeys. So you have to understand where you are, some really serious jungle. It was incredible, and they have a path to one of the emptiest, pristine beaches I've ever seen. That's all I'm going to say about that. I don't have the words, you'll have to see it for yourself.
Finally, Wolle and the staff. They are fantastic. Wolle is very hands off, but totally approachable and happy to help. It was a pleasure to share the beach with him when I went for my 6am swim. I can't speak highly enough of Lucco and Gerra, two the most capable, friendly and caring cabelleros I've had the pleasure to meet. Marta was wonderful freshening up the room every day.
A special hello to Ricco and Cookie,my surrogates for the trip.
All in all, I feel fortunate to have spent time at the Lodge. It may not be for everyone, but it was for me in a big way. I was sad to leave and I hope to return before the memory fades.
Be well everyone,
Wolle was a great host. The place is somewhat magical. The cabins are in the middle of the forest, with palm trees and wildlife. We saw a mother hummingbird tending to its nest of eggs. But that also meant listening to howler monkeys at 2am. So definitely bring ear plugs.
The breakfast is light, some cut fruit, toast; eggs and juice on request.
The wifi is available from the main lobby, and we were able to connect from our front porch. But don’t expect to be able to watch Netflix.
The room was in good condition. Though bugs were able to get in through some of the cracks. The beds have nets around them, which helps. Our shower had a drainage problem, the floor was slanted away from the drain, so the shower constantly had a pool of water. The water pressure was low, which made it hard to switch to the shower.
We also came during a drought, which required the water to be shut off during the night.
It was really nice to be able to walk out to the beach. The swimmable portion is about 100 feet. Only one person was out there with us.
Los días que estuvimos donde Wolle fueron geniales! él y su equipo son muy atentos y simpáticos(al igual que sus perros!!) La próxima vez que estemos en Costa Rica seguro volvemos a visitarlo,
Wolle, Tito and all the people working are super nice. The place is tucked into a world of green and close (200yrds) to a kind of private beach. The rooms are large and clean, the bathroom would need a little update. The coffee for breakfast is a real delight best so far in Costa Rica. Since this place is in Playa Chiquita it is way less traffic and noise than in Porto Viejo itself.
Nice staff. Clean large room. Simple - not a 5 start resort, but tucked into the jungle and close to the beach
We stayed for just a weekend but since we arrived we felt how nice and attentive Tito and the staff were. The place is as described, nice colorful cabins and a 5min walk to the beach! The weather was very very hot, so the cabin it's a good place to sleep but maybe not to hang-out for too long, since the ceiling fan is quite small. Other than that we were very happy with the place and environment. Additionally we were offered a nice breakfast in the morning! :) I personally loved the fact it's a dog-friendly place.
Wolle and Tito made the experience a memorable one for us. From the moment my son and I arrived we felt at home. The lodge was super cozy tucked right in the middle of the jungle yet 5 mins walk thru the jungle to get to the beach. Some of the best beaches in town. This little B&B is suited in Play Chiquita which is considered the higher end part of Puerto Viejo.
I had the pleasure to stay at Wolle and Tito's place in April 2013. I was originally planning on staying for one night and each day decided to extend my stay. I ended up staying 5 nights and they were marvelous all the way through.
The welcoming I was offered was amazing and I really felt as if I was part of the family.
The cabins were built in the late 80's so if you are looking for a modern contemporary feel, this might not be your place. However, it was ideal for me and my needs. The beds are comfortable, each cabin has a fan and a hammock on their porch which is awesome for your afternoon or early evening naps.
The beach is literally a 3 minutes walk and I must say that the beach feels like paradise.
All in all, I had an amazing time at Wolle and Tito's place and I would recommend it to any prospective traveller passing by Puerto Viejo.
Response from Wolle:
Gracias amigo! aqui te esperamos para hacerte buenos "succos", jugar a POKER, y charlar...vuelve cuando quieras, esta es tu casa! Tito y Wolle.
We arrived for work and play and we were welcomed with open arms by Tito, Wollie and staff. I found a home in Playa Chiquita Lodge. Per Friendly, great space to work, great Internet, right on the beach and hammocks throughout the lodge for wading, talking and reflecting. Inspirational space filled with attentive staff to make your stay everything you wanted and more. Loved talking with Wollie. Can't wait to visit again.
