Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our stay at Lynda's. While her communication started off great, we arrived at a house that was dirty and in disrepair. There was dirty dishes (with caked on food) that had been left in the cabinets and the bathroom did not appear to have been cleaned before our arrival. The largest issue is that the shower only released a trickle of water and there was no hot water at any time of our stay. We had to buy a bucket during our trip and heat water on the stove for bucket baths (we even ended up buying a day pass gym membership down the street midweek just so we could take showers!).
There were other frustrating issues as well. Lynda has a dog that she lets out in the backyard early in the morning. The dog then barks for long periods of time (greater than 30 minutes on one occasion).
Also, on Saturday, just before 8:00AM, we were woken by a man on a ladder looking in our 2nd floor window as he banged on the gutter right above. My husband jumped out of bed and pulled the shade closed as I was still dressed in my pajamas. The banging continued for at least an hour. After an hour my husband and I gave up and left for a drive. We wish we would have been told this construction would occur as we would have changed our reservation.
Lynda mentions in her response that my husband was unfriendly, but he holding his tongue out of frustration from our stay. He was so angry that we had paid more than a price of a mid-range hotel room on St. Charles to stay in a place with no hot water (on a week where it was down in 30 degree temperature range) and where the host was not accommodating to paying guests.
Luckily we spent the second week of our two week stay in New Orleans at a great house about 5 minutes ago that was wonderful and such a 180 degree different experience from our stay at Lynda's house.
Great location with the home exactly as advertised. Easy access to the street car and steps away from a bakery, restaurants, and pubs.
We had a wonderful 3 week stay at Lynda's. The location of the apartment could not be better. With an outstanding French Bakery on the corner and tons of bars, restaurants and shops along Magazine street a few steps away we had so many amazing things to do right at our fingertips. The playground 2 blocks away was a big plus for our son too. The apartment is also a short walk to the St. Charles streetcar, making downtown and the French Quarter easily accessible.
The apartment itself exudes old New Orleans charm. In other words, this is a place with soul. Lynda also has put thought into the decor, which features local art. There's also a nice little balcony off of the bedroom, a nice place for a morning coffee or an evening drink.
Lynda's hospitality was top notch. I needed to store some food in her freezer, and since she was going to be out of town a few days herself, she arranged for me to be able to store it with her neighbor. He was totally cool about it. It's hard for me to imagine this sense of hospitality in NYC.
In terms of feedback for improvement, given the length of our stay I would have liked to see more kitchen utensils to do some in-house cooking, but for those staying only a few days it's probably not an issue. It was also unseasonably cold a few days of our stay, and the small window heater struggled a bit to keep the place warm. Such is life I guess with old New Orleans houses, but it's just something to keep in mind if the temperature will be cold during your stay.
All in all, a great place to experience the real New Orleans.
Lynda's place was truly amazing, so close to so many eateries and bars, who had great music playing every night. a couple blocks from the st charles street car, which drops you right in front of the mighty bourbon st. thee only thing that was a concern was the spiral staircase leading to the room! but really it wasnt that bad. thanks again Lynda, we really appreciated it!
The title tells the truth - this wonderful apartment really is in the best location! Everything about our stay was perfect, from the Abita already in the fridge to the extra comfortable beds. It was also very quiet and peaceful, a welcome respite if you've spent a night out on the town. Highly recommended!
We had a wonderful time staying with Lynda! Her place is absolutely beautiful and is a wonderful neighbourhood - minutes walk from dozens of fantastic bars, restaurants and amazing shops. The fridge was full of goodies and Lynda greeted us with cold beer and the warmest of welcomes. Would highly recommend anyone to come and stay with Lynda. Thank you so much again xx
Lynda was a great hostess! She was so kind and helpful, and she was always so quick to respond to my messages. The apartment was nice, quiet, and clean. Lynda also made sure we had plenty of clean towels, toilet paper, hand soap, and more! We had a lovely stay at her apartment! :)
My family stayed here for a weekend recently. The location, the beds - all great. One thing to be aware of is that there is a circular staircase to get up to the apartment. Very charming but the steps are narrow. Overall, a good experience.
Lynda's apartment is a fantastic place to call home in Uptown New Orleans. We loved the pool, the balcony, and the bars and restaurants of Magazine Street. Although we had and recommend a car for exploring the larger city, it was great to have the Magazine St bus and St Charles Ave streetcar for going out at night.
We had a great time staying at Lynda's place. The apartment was very clean and Lynda was a great host and communicator. Although there were a few small things (AC was out), Lynda more than made up for that by helping to make our trip a memorable one. Great location, good neighbors, and food/drinks/shopping, We hope to visit again sometime, thanks Lynda!
