Although it was a bit difficult to find at first, once we were in Benoit's flat, it was a nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong. We would describe the flat as "rustic chic" sometimes it felt more rustic, others more chic. Because of the temporary power outage and inevitable, insatiable Sai Kung mosquitoes one might feel like they were "roughing it", but we also appreciated the perks of a the gas stove (very "Euro" for HK), the views over the water and the high ceilings.
One should definitely be shorter in stature if you are staying here more than a few nights, as my husband (and I) hit our heads several times in the bathroom as the ceiling is shorter in there than you would expect. Also, I think twelve-year-old me would have been thrilled to sleep in a loft and climb a ladder every time I needed to get in and out of bed, but thirty-two year old me didn't love climbing down in the middle of the night when nature called!
There is no sofa in the flat, so be prepared to sit on the bed or at the table for any non-meal seating.
The flat is about a 25 minute walk to downtown Sai Kung or a 5 minute bus ride, keep this in mind if you fancy the downtown area.
Response from Benoit:
Hello Blake, i have indeed found the water heater malfunctioning after you left. If this is the issue you faced let me know and will propose refund.
Let me know.
A quiet compact and private place. Perfect for a weekend or more... Ben is generous and follows through.

We had THE BEST stay at Benoit's place in Sai Kung. Everything about the house and the location was absolutely perfect. If you are after a getaway week-end from the big smoke, this is your place. Benoit's place is extremely quiet, peaceful and close to some of the best hikes in Hong Kong (we did Section 2 of the Maclehose Trail - great beach hike to do in the warmer months!) Perfect for a couple.
Great place - and excellent to escape from the city. Even more wonderful is to wake up early and see dawn rising across the water, whilst having a cup of coffee on the veranda.
Very quiet village, about 1 minute by taxi north of Sai Kung Village, although would recommend getting a local taxi from SK village to find it. Even so, very helpful and convenient to get there with help of the helper who lives nearby.
Would give it 5 stars - but as a tall man - i kept bumping my head in the bathroom (which is very small!)

Great location, close to Sai Kung. Really easy to get around with bus or taxi. Recommend for two people.
Benoit's house is fantastically located right on the water's edge within a short stroll of Saikung town. Wine store across the road. Hikes at your door step. Benoit is very accommodating and is a great host. His neighbours are most helpful with key drop off, etc. Two thumbs up.
Benoit stayed with no problems at our apartment for five days
