I am a gymnastics coach and music teacher with a lovely daughter and a loving husband. I love the water, and swim and surf as much as I can.

Super Duper family stay. Very spacious. Very unique ( our girls didn't like the Taxidermy...) Very Home like. Very quiet. Very well equipped kitchen. We loved the surrounding area. Came for the Volcano but fell in love with Paoha, Hilo , beautiful beaches and the different vibe on this side of the island. Perfect place for pivot point to tour around.
A nice, large, very clean house in a very quiet neighborhood. The person listing the house is a management service; any issues require referral to the owner (who was very prompt and came in person to the house). Beds were quite comfortable. Kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, cutlery, etc for meal preparation. Owner provides basics such as hand soap, dish soap. All else renter must provide - so make a visit to the grocer prior to leaving Hilo!
Drive from Hilo is anywhere from 25 min. during low traffic (night) to more than an hour (letting off from work). There will be construction on Hwy 130 for quite some time and this really is a pain! House is worth it though.
One drawback is decoration (?) in living room will not appeal to all. We were off-put but the many dead/stuffed animals, gun, and compound bow mounted on the walls and hanging from the ceiling.
The other drawback is that cell service is very limited at the house. T-mobile = 0 bars, ATT = 1 outside house, 2 if you walk into roadway and face roughly North/NorthWest. No landline at house.
Know that this side of island is NOT good swimming - surf rough and beaches rocky. Nearest good swim beach 1 hour drive on Hwy 11 North of Hilo/house. Beach has sea turtles that are very docile and fun to swim with! Black sand is cool to see but very hot on feet. Bring shoes to swim in (and for rocks!).
Best grocery is in Hilo. As you leave airport turn onto Hwy 11 North go about 5 stop lights and it is on the right. Look for very large building with KTA on marquee. Pahoa has extremely limited selection of food at Longs Drugs which is on right as you pass through on Hwy 130. There will be absolutely no food at the house - this is NOT a BnB!
Easy access to volcano (45 minutes from house), forest reserve good for whale watching and plant/wildlife viewing (15 minutes), botanical garden - only go to Hawaiian Gardens (great!!!!) at Omea Bay as World Botanical Gardens were an absolute disappointment (40 minutes non-traffic times). Black sand beach with turtles (must see!!!!) (90 min.). Green sands beach (bring water!!!) (driving 2 hours and then a 2 hour hike in over rough dirt road).
Came here with three other friends for few days. It was great because we each got our own room. The home is absolutely amazing! The pictures do not do it justice. It's spacious, clean, well decorated and very well maintained inside and out. The outside patio is great for relaxing or grilling out. The property is located about a 40 minute drive from Hilo Airport in a quite neighborhood. It's also less than a 10 minute drive away from Pahoa, a cute little town with great dining options. We absolutely loved the home and I would stay there again and recommend to a friend. Thanks to the hosts for being so great!
