We (Maria & Richard) are an artist and musician from the Philadelphia area.
The intimate medival setting proved to be a splendid retreat for five ladies on holiday. The two apartments were not only comfortable, but were decorated in beautiful wood furnishings and traditional Umbria style. The bathrooms were updated and the new gas stove called upon you to cook wonderful Italian meals.
We were fortunate enough to be there during the Feast of St. Phillipe and joined in the village ceremony holding lighted candles as we walked along the hamlet walls and hedges with the locals. The amazing town of Todi was only one of the hill towns that was a short distance away. Our day trips into the Umbrian countryside are unforgettable. Thank you Maria & Richard for a vacation to remember!
Montenero Castle was a wonderful place to relax in the countryside of Umbria. Centrally located between Florence and Rome, my guests and I were able to reside in a medieval hamlet and still visit the lovely hill towns of Central Italy close by. The apartment was quite spacious and very comfortable. The five of us enjoyed the collection of classical, jazz and blues CDs left for our enjoyment while cooking Italian dishes on the new stainless steel gas stove.
The decor of the apartment was carefully selected to enhance the Umbria lifestyle. The beautiful wood furniture, colorful rugs, soft tone sofas and chairs all fit together perfectly. There was plenty of privacy with two separate classically decorated bedrooms and the bathroom was updated with a refreshing hot shower.
I would recommend Maria and Richard's place to anyone who is looking for a spacious retreat that is located in an inviting medieval village near Todi with a breathtaking view.
My husband and I stayed in the apartment for a little over a week. The area is an easy drive from Rome (90 minutes) and there is so much to do! Montenero is an easy drive from Todi and so many other great places to visit. Although Maria couldn't be there to greet us, she set up quite a support network to show us the ins and outs. The apartment itself is elegant and is equipped with everything you would need. The views from the third floor are amazing- I can't tell you how many pics I took! We are already talking about going back!
We stayed here for one week. It is such a beautiful little spot. Perfect for those who wish to take time out and explore Umbria. A car is important to have, and it's so easy to do day trips. There's a studio downstairs as well, which if I had longer would have rented. This apartment and the other one on offer would work well for people who want to create and be inspired. You awake every morning to the gorgeous castle and the views. Our stay was embraced by the community (which is tiny) and coffee with Maria and her husband became a daily treat. We can't speak Italian but that didn't seem to matter. Bella seemed enough! Beautiful place and wonderful people. All the facilities were great, clean and modern. I miss it already.
Maria and Richard are very trustworthy people whom I've known for many years. In fact, few people know them as well as I do, and I consider that a stroke of luck for me. I have stayed at their place in Montenero and can highly recommend both it and them.
Maria, Giulio, Claudia and Aster, ALL NEIGHBOURS, wish to tell future guests that having Maria as a friend is wonderful, inspiring and great. We thank Maria for sharing her dear friendship!
Hope you won't book too many 'cause we miss her presence here!!!
It would be hard to write ONLY a few sentences! Maria is charming, intelligent and one of the most creative individuals I have ever known. She is beautiful inside and out with a kind and compassionate soul. She lives her life with the utmost integrity and, should you have the good fortune to meet her, she will be a contribution to your life.
