Millie met us when we arrived and gave us a short tour of the house. She and her husband Richard made sure that there was a fresh fruit plate in the refrigerator for us. We felt very welcome and expected.
The description was very accurate and the reality of the place actually exceeded our expectations. They are about a half kilometer walk down to a largely deserted beach and far enough back from the road for road noise not to present a problem.
They are set off, largely by themselves and everything around the place functions beautifully
There is no better place to stay in the Dominical/Uvita area and I cannot recommend The Howler hut highly enough. As soon as you arrive you do not only see but you can also feel all the TLC that has been invested in this property and Millie and Richard are the most gracious and friendliest of hosts!
The cabin is beautifully built and very comfortable, especially if you are looking for somewhere to stay for a while. This is the kind of place that feels like home! You will enjoy wildlife and stunning sunsets from the patio and because the property lies just within the border of the jungle the temperature is far more comfortable than down by the beach. Even at the hottest of days the bedroom stays nice and cool at night, with only a ceiling fan and the door and window open (except for the screen door!)
If you are an animal lover you will enjoy your stay even more as Millie and Richards dogs are very lovable and the horse Luke is a charmer, especially if you give him your fruit peel!
There is a nice little beach just across the road and if you enjoy a good hike you can follow the dirt road outside the gate to a beautiful waterfall where you can soak and cool down before heading back.
There is easy access to both Uvita and Dominical even without a car as there is a bus stop just outside the gate.
The Howler hut is a place you want to return to, I know I will!
Come back soon, we miss you already.
The cabina is fantastic. It is in the jungle, close to the beach and you can see the ocean through the trees. The cabina is well equiped for cooking and relaxing. There is also a sink to wash your clothes and a rope to hang them. You will hear howler monkeys in the morning and see or hear other animals as well. There is a bus stop (built by Richard and Millie) right by the road, which can help you get around if you can familiarize yourself with the public transportation system. We had a lot of fun at Millie's. She drove us to the Dominicalito waterfall, which is lovely. She also gave us advice on where to get our food. Plus, and it's a huge plus, Millie and Richard are always there to help. On our last day, we were waiting for the bus to Chacarita, which never stoped to pick us up. Richard drove us quickly to the Uvita bus terminal, where we have been able to catch the bus on time. To sum it up, if you go to Dominical, stay at Millie's. You will love it!
Thank you, we loved having you both.
Millie and Richard were fantastic hosts. They were very informative prior to our arrival and upon arrival, we received a very warm welcome. The Howler Hut is wonderful and definitely provide the whole 'living in the jungle experience'. Millie and Richard's property is beautiful and we would go back any day!
Thank You Shan, you are welcome back any time.
Millie Y Richard
We had a wonderful one month stay at the Howler Hut. The wildlife all around the hut was amazing. We saw howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys, Jesus lizard in the stream, and more birds than I can list here. Millie & Richard were more than helpful in pointing us in the right direction if we needed anything. Somehow I had managed to pack only 1/2 of my swimsuit and Millie actually had one I could use that fit perfectly!! The Favas
The layout of the hut is a little unusual in that you have to go down and around to get to the bedroom/bathroom combo but we soon had adjusted to that. We were sorry to leave so soon and will look forward to returning to Dominical and Uvita in the future.
Millie and her husband were great!. The house was really nice and the backyard was beautiful. We will be back!!
We have known Millie and her husband Richard since we arrived in Costa Rica twenty years ago. She is one of the most caring and selfless people I have ever known and displays a genuine concern for those around her including friends and guests. You will love this woman.
Millie's place is an absolute paradise. As an airbnb host myself, I can't think of a more amazing place to stay. Staying at Casa Selva is the perfect place for a tropical get away where you get to experience nature, while staying close to Costa Rican adventure spots. Its guarded and gated, but with gorgeous views of the ocean. You have easy access to a private beach which is within walking distance, while being close to amazing tourist attractions and great surfing. Millie and her husband Richard are kind and friendly while providing privacy for all of their guest. Local Costa Rican's, as well as visitors from abroad, have enjoyed this place for years. The pictures do not give the place justice...absolute paraside!
