Mairead made us feel really welcome with many little extras. Skellig Rest is a wonderful house with stunning views over the bay to Skellig Michael. We fell totally in love with the area, Kerry is so beautiful and Skellig Rest is located centrally within the area near beaches with white sand and some of the best views in Ireland. Mairead added to our enjoyment with her kindness and the fact that she was always at hand if needed. She left us lots of local info, a welcome pack and gave us a wonderfully warm welcome ( there was literally a roaring fire in the fireplace on our arrival). This was one of the best holidays we have ever had, thanks Mairead and thanks for making your lovely house available so others can experience this special place.
Mairead was a fantastic host. She gave us a warm welcome on arrival with a bottle of wine and a lit fire which was greatly appreciated on a cold and windy night. Mairead gave us lots of great recommendations for places to visit and places to eat which really helped make our trip. I can't recommend the listing itself enough. The view is spectacular, the amenities are excellent and Maireads attention to detail can be seen throughout the house. The location is perfect to access so many beautiful places in Kerry.
We had an amazing time! We sat on the deck at Skellig Rest and drank in the view out to the Skelligs every day. It is good for the heart! Even though there is lots to explore - Waterville (Charlie Chaplin Film Fest), Valencia Island, Daniel O'Connell's house in Derrynane - we found it hard to pull ourselves away from the view. When it got chilly at night we retired into the house. A very comfy sitting room - perfect to host a few friends. A good kitchen, and - believe it or not - an electric sauna and shower room. Taken altogether, one couldn't find a more accommodating house. We took breakfast every morning in the "porch" with big windows giving us the same view. We took loads of photos using the tripod Mairead has for guests, topped with a telescope for closer viewing. It turns out Skellig Rest is in the Dark Sky zone - and get's the clearest nighttime views of the sky in Northern Europe. So many stars it can be shocking! Mairead greeted us and set us up perfectly. We shall return! Who wouldn't? Amazingly, all the photos on this listing are true! That deck also sports a hot tub! We look forward to our next visit. Many thanks airead for a great break away in your fantastic house.

The property was better than we expected- larger than it seemed from the listings page. We were made to feel very welcome by the host who had gone to a lot of trouble to put special little touches throughout the home. There was a bottle of wine, mince pies, a warm fire and lots of lit candles awaiting us. Very thoughtful details such as hot water bottles, choccies on the bed side tables and bath robes with slippers were also in place. If you can force yourself to leave the wonderful property, the surrounding area is stunning and our host provided helpful maps and information.
We (3 adults and 2 children) staid 10 days at Skelling Rest and enjoyed every minute. The house and the garden are lovely, the kitchen very-well equiped and the rooms (the bath-rooms as well) are affectionately decorated. Thank you Mairead for the warm welcome and the tips you gave us.
We were all enchanted by the house, its location and the view from the terrace. We had a lovely time at Skelling Rest. Not only the house is located beautifully but also equipped and furnished with taste which made us stay even more enjoyable. Mairead gave us warm welcome and provided with all the information and recommendation of the area. Thank you a lot Mairead! Daniel, Natalia, Anita and Hanna.
What can we say. Mairead welcomed us perfectly, showed us around and offered so much advice and guidance. The location is wonderful and the views are simply stunning.
Once mastered, exiting onto the road is easy even with a big vehicle such as ours.
The hot tub is a real treat and one that was seriously taken advantage of and with the afforded views, not be missed.
There are just so many walks in and around the area, that it would take weeks to do them justice. Valencia Island is highly recommended, with the walk to the lookout tower a stiff workout and following on, the loop back to the car park. Not long, but at around three miles, up and down, we really knew we had burnt the calories.
Sunsets were simply awe inspiring and my wife took the opportunity of night after night taking photos. Indeed, the entire area was a photographers dream. Spare batteries, charger and large memory cards a must.
Quiet nights in were (website hidden) was limited but that was what we wanted to get away from. peace, quiet, tranquility. All abundant.
Meals out. Best was Dooleys seafood restaurant and a seafood linguini that had so much crab in it............ Followed closely by the Smugglers which had great views and an excellent Cabernet wine that was suspiciously peppery for a Cabernet but I am not complaining as it was gorgeous and warranted a second glass.
We could go on and on. But, to sum up.
Marvelous location, great house, unbelievable views, HOT TUB, charming and a wonderfully friendly host [Mairead, you are a star], some great local restaurants, fuel cheaper than the UK, quiet, peaceful, relaxing. And, a place we would gladly return to and highly recommend.
Not long enough a visit. Should have gone to Skellig Michael. A missed opportunity. But a darned good reason to go back.

We had a wonderful time at Skellig Rest! Mairead gave us a very warm welcome and was always willing to help us in any way (thanks for the flu recipe: Whiskey, Lemon and honey! ;-)). The house is lovely with lots of affectionately decorated details, the view stunning! Definately a home far away from home, that we highly recommend!
