I'm a 35 year old Malaysian who is on "working sabbatical" until my 36th birthday.
Some people take a year out to travel to the far ends of the earth "to find themselves", but my year off is not quite so Eat, Pray, Love.
My time-off dream was always about being able to work for nothing.
Working, yes, buy having the luxury to set aside 1 year of working life for non-career path work: design, commercial experiments, volunteer opportunities, study/research projects (or better yet, some combination thereof). Stuff I've always been interested in but I can never (practically) find enough time to do well part-time or only-weekends when working my usual 80-90 hour workweeks.
Stuff I like: coffee, cooking, bookshops and books, and conversations with other people who like conversations about books. Stories buried deep in a coalmine of data, or in the corner of newspapers.
Random Useful lodger/host skills: great at pesto, Tom Kha Gai and mojitos.
Health warning: I will be using the kitchen and wifi a lot.
