Natascha was an excellent host, very kind, and made us feel at home. We arrived quite late at night and got lost finding the place, but I called Natascha and she directed us where to go over the phone. The neighborhood is quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the more touristy areas of the island. The apartment was clean, nicely decorated, and had laundry available. There is a picnic table outside and a beautiful garden with citrus trees. Natascha and her husband even offered us surfboards and bicycles to borrow if we wanted, and gave us recommendations for restaurants and things to do nearby. We had a wonderful stay there!
beautifully presented cottage, immaculately clean and well equipped. The bathroom is stunning!
Great host! Easy to communicate with, We had no problems getting in touch, and she responded quickly! The place is beautiful. plenty of privacy but close enough to town with a rental car. Robert and Natashca were helpful with tips and there is a local grocery store just down the street that allowed us to buy supplies for our meals! Great stay. Definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxing and scenic stay in Maui. Mahalo!
The studio and the location were great for getting away from the masses. It was a great way to explore the island and get a local perspective. The gardens were beautiful and bonus visit from the house cat, Puma, and a couple local Roosters. Paia, Ho'okipa and the Road to Hana are a short drive away and you can get to the other side of the island in less than 30. The studio had everything we needed and would definitely recommend to stay here. It is a little difficult to find on first arriving, but nothing insurmountable. The kitchen and the bed could use a little upgrade, but it is not as if you are spending your time in Maui cooking. If you are looking for a great local affordable place to stay on Maui, I would definitely recommend it.
This was a mixed (and slightly strange) experience for us.
The property itself was basically as we expected. All the essentials were fine -- clean, comfortable bed, good shower. Studio needs a little TLC but that was no problem, we knew it going in. It was affordable and it's in a part of the island where it's harder to find rentals.
The problem was communication. We wrote three times to Natascha in the days before we arrived, twice by email and once through the Airbnb site (we would have called/texted but the phone number listed was only six digits long). We never heard from her. Eventually, we showed up at the property around 1PM and there was no one around.
After 30 minutes we called Airbnb representatives to see if they could get ahold of Natascha. They tried a different phone number than we had, but no one picked up.
Around 1:40, a woman drove into the property; she told us Natascha was away, and said very sternly that we shouldn't have arrived until 2PM (this was news to us). We said 'no problem,' and she drove off down the long drive way without saying another word. It was awkward and off-putting.
Thirty minutes later she came up and told us the room was now ready. Her mood had changed, she was smiling and pleasant.
After that, the experience went well. Natascha wrote the following day to ask us how things were going. As mentioned, it's not a luxury property, but it was a great inexpensive base for us for that part of our trip.
What a fantastic home in a super location. My review regards the main home, top floor, that is displayed in photographs. I see other reviews relate to a cottage and the downstairs residence that was not rented during our stay.... For our stay, we felt exceptionally fortunate to land at this AirBnB, where this beautiful home was ours. The home was easy to find, and entry was down a beautiful drive that landed at a circular driveway at the front door. The home was perfect for two couples, each having a huge bedroom and bath at opposite ends of the home. Midway is the kitchen, dining area, and sitting room. As the home was on a slope, the entire back of the home to include both bedrooms opened up to an expansive deck which a remarkable view of the beautiful property and distant ocean. The location was perfect for getting away from the crowds, yet was proximal to Paia (10 minutes) and Makawao (15 minutes), and roads that lead to Maui's top spots.
The home was fanciful, like living in the Disney Tiki House, but where the bird calls were real. We were woken each morning by a timely Rooster, and native bird calls... we loved that. I might not recommend this home for someone with very small children, as the sinks are Giant Clam Shells, stained glass adorns the doorway, and perhaps the embellishments would not be conducive to containing a rambunctious child.... the property needs to be respected.
Natascha was available through email, and was very happy to accommodate our requests, if at all possible (ie: there was no guest in the house prior to us, so we could arrive anytime of the day). Because Natascha was not available during our stay, she did have care takers who could have met any immediate needs, but we did not need anything... it was pretty much our place, no problems.
Lastly, worth noting, our foursome included a guest who coincidently broke her ankle the week before. The break was so significant that it required surgery, and she was stuck in a wheelchair for our visit. How fortunate we were to have happened to have a circular drive, and could park feet from the front door, and our wheelchair bound member could wheel around every room in the home, to include the deck, without a single step. So... this particular property is perfect for someone in a wheelchair or limited mobility.
Staying in Maui was beautiful and the sight from the property at Natascha's was as well. It had the basics of what we needed, mostly we were out instead of in so overall not to shabby. There were a few things that could have more attention paid to that I'd liked to have been different for our little family trip but no outrages complaints. The gal that we did happen to see was nice enough Bc it was a bit tricky locate the studio. All though by day two I will say the smelly stench of mildew was off putting and there was a bit of an excess amount of dust especially under the bed. My 12 month old son was crawling around for his toys and I went to grab one that went under the bed and it looked quite bad under there. I was a bit bummed out we had to buy our own towels bc the ones provided seemed a bit old with a crunch to them and not a pleasant smell. Getting a hold of Natascha wasn't easy either, two days before departure we inquired if there was a washer we could use for laundry and never got a response. Shucks!! Overall I'd give our stay at this location a C. Needs a few more attention to medium details.
This apartment was a wonderful place to stay if you want to get away from the busy touristy west coast of Maui. It was in the lower level of a lovely home in a quiet neighborhood in Haiku which is on the road to Hana. The apartment was clean, the king bed was comfortable and the yard had fruit trees with oranges and tangerines available for picking. At times I heard people upstairs, but most of the five days I was there, it was very quiet. I never met or saw the owner Natascha.
The kitchen seemed adequate for cooking but one big disappointment was that the gas hot plate did not work and it was determined that it was out of gas. I like to cook simple meals when I travel and not having a way to boil eggs was difficult. I never could figure out how to use the TV. I just got the message "no signal" when I turned it on. It would be helpful to have a user manual or some written instructions.
Looking back on my stay in this Haiku apartment, I would give it a good recommendation if you are looking for a quiet stay in a true Hawaiian neighborhood. The closest beach is Ho'okipa about 5 miles away and the nearby town of Paia, despite the traffic and difficult parking situation, is fun for browsing, shopping and dining.
She have written to us. We Never saw the her.
We stayed in the studio for 5 nights over the Christmas period. All communication with the host was by email or messages left on the manager's phone. On arrival after nightfall during a torrential downpour we found the entrance only with the help of the tenant of another unit on the property. Once inside, there were no welcoming notes to guests, no instructions, no wifi code and the TV wasn't working. The following morning we discovered why there were no published pictures of the exterior of the premises - the only view looks out onto a concrete 'courtyard' and walls beneath the deck of the main house. Moreover, there is no lanai, porch, deck or veranda to speak of: you walk out of the door into the garden. Admittedly the overall property and the garden, full of citrus trees, are beautiful. However, we left on the final morning feeling that, as experienced Maui visitors, this would not be a place to which we would return for the price paid nor one that we could recommend.
