This is a really readable priced place close to a lot amenities. Great hospitality, very helpful. The house is easy to reach by public transportation. DrddeDe
Overview: don't stay here if you can find something better at $60 (room =30 + cab to & from airport 15/each way).
Granted, I just wanted a bed for the night because I got in late & had an early morning flight. So for the price & location, this was ok. Until I actually had to stay here. I wrongly had to spend my last night after an amazing week in Panamá & I'm trying to block out that night.
I've never stayed in a hostel in my life & had I known that this was one, never would've picked it. The pictures/address are of the villa, not of the hostel which is where I had to be driven to. I went to the address on the map, maybe a block up, and had to figure out this situation in the dark with dogs barking and following me. Terrifying at 10pm.
Evans & Isabella graciously picked me up from the villa & took me to the hostel. Nice people & doing a decent job.
But the hostel was a hostel mess. And the guy who shared a space with me paid $8?! No warm water, place is falling apart, noise. Super sketchy neighborhood. Like sketch city.
I probably should get a refund because this was just not a good experience. But I stayed the night, at least until 4:30 when I ran out.
This place is fine. We stayed here because it was close to the airport. Was a bit confused because I was expecting it to be run by an older French lady but I guess it has passed hands now. It's run now by a guy named Evans.
Make sure you specify that you are staying at the Dumas villa and don't say hostel. They have another location that is considered a hostel and because of some confusion, we were brought there upon arriving.
We finally got back to Dumas Villa and got a room, which appear as to be the library in the pictures... (They've since taken out a couch and added a king size bed)
No soap in the bathroom, no hot water, and no breakfast. We paid Evans 15 bucks to drive us to the airport... He said a cab would be 20.
Place was fine, you get what you pay for. Wouldn't stay again but it was fine and cheap.
This was a very reasonably priced room in a beautiful villa. It is very, very convenient to Tocumen International airport. The air conditioning made the room very comfortable for sleeping. The room had cable TV and a convenient bathroom right next door. For $5 extra, the hosts offered us secure parking for the night which was greatly appreciated.
Close to airport. Great option for our one night stay.
This property, which was built 4 years ago, is near Metro Mall and not the airport as shown on the map. We had a shared bathroom and there is a $5/day parking fee, neither of which we were not aware of. The hosts were pleasant, especially the mother.
We came from Panama City where we took the Metro-Train to San Miguelito before sundown and then took a taxi during rush hour for $6 to the Metro Mall to eat before check-in. Isabella met us at the Metro Mall at dusk after we ate to guide us on the short walk from the mall to the house. The check-in process was unusual for us (enter passport info, signature), but I think it's just a more traditional process. Evans was very cool and very clear on the rules of the house. The bed was plenty big and comfortable. Our only minor complaint was that air conditioner didn't work very well.
For a flight that arrives/leaves during in the day, it is perfect because the bus stop is just a 5-10 min walk from the home. We had a flight at 10:00AM and left the house at dawn (~6:00AM) and walked to the bus stop very safely and hopped on for only $0.25 per person. (NEED A METRO-BUS CARD). Made it to the airport around 6:30AM.
I can't speak to riding the bus and walking at night.
For the price and the fact it was right next to the mall and close to the airport, I wish we could have stayed one more night to really enjoy the area. Also lovely hosts; we spent some time telling our stories over drinks and had a great time.
The place is beautiful and Evan is very nice. They were helpful in giving us towels and directions and even lending us his bus card.
The only thing they are working on and I am sure they will get it worked out is transportation to the Villa. The taxi's are not very happy about dropping you off because it is a short fare and many refused to take us.
Dumas villa was a great value and it was a very nice accommodation in a great location. Close to the airport, walking distance to a great mall, and located in a pleasant neighborhood of San Antonio section of Panama city. The staff was excellent and took care of every detail and need. I highly recommend this b&b for Panama city travelers.
This house is amazingly beautiful in a little neighborhood next to the Metromall, which is handy because of all the busses. Our hosts were kind, friendly, and helpful. I only wish we could have stayed more than two nights.
We wish you could have stayed longer to Jill. Glad to have meet you. You were a wonderful guest. We are looking forward to your return trip.
