The family was friendly, but the whole accomodation is sub-standard: bathroom always under water, a youthhostel like bedroom for 10 with long ago washed pillows. The location is so far outside that no taxidriver finds it, the distance to airport/bus is > 1 hour . At the end Sergio (who is only an agent and not the owner) wanted 100 $ for a day -you get a four star hotel in bolivia for this price.uncorrect.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay. Mauricio was a great host and I enjoyed dining with the family on the first night. Mauricio picked me up from the bus station, which helped a great deal. His family were lovely and welcoming.
I only stayed for two nights, but felt I was in good hands.
We stayed in La Paz for three days this February and had a great time visiting this very interesting city. Much of the reason for our enjoyment was staying in Sergio's apartment. Sergio is most energetic and interesting. He and his mother warmly welcomed us, helped us get settled, and provided all sort of help while we were there. The apartment is very spacious, comfortable, and filled with all sorts of interesting items - Sergio is an artist and it shows in the decor of the apartment. It is located in the San Pedro district, very close to the central market, the Witches Market and San Francisco Church. Taxis are pretty cheap in La Paz and we found them a good way of getting around, along with slowly walking - the hilly streets and the elevation meant that going slow worked for us!
Sergio provided not only advice but sent one whole day with us guiding us though the city, up to the heights to enjoy a panoramic view and through the magnificent Valle de Las Animas. Sergio is a natural born guide - intelligent, schooled, enthusiastic and articulate - his presence made our trip memorable. The added bonus was that his mother also spent time with us, as did some of the neighbour children.
All in all, a very rich experience for us - one that we are anxious to repeat. Thank you Sergio and Narda - we will come back.
We had a wonderful 4 day stay in Sergio's lovely apartment! Besides having a host who was super friendly, warm and helpful in helping us get situated in La Paz, his apartment is also very conveniently located just about a 10-15 minute walk to the best of the downtown areas in La Paz's numerous neighborhoods worth checking out. The apartment itself was extremely spacious, allowing us to easily make a home for ourselves for a few days with our own bedroom, living room area, bathroom, kitchen, and outdoor terrace area. If you love to cook like we do, there is a wonderful local market (and supermarket) just steps away which provided the most impressive array of fresh, tasty organic veggies, all at an incredibly cheap price! The neighborhood is safe and we felt nothing except looked after for under Sergio's welcoming care. A great host and a wonderful apartment! If you are looking for a quieter retreat while in La Paz at a reasonable price, there's no need to look further than this apartment!
