Love to host travelers from all over the world and meet new people. I moved to Costa Rica and am running the Pura Vida Guesthouse & Hostel.
DO NOT STAY HERE! We were so excited to stay at Pura Vida after reading so many wonderful reviews and I could not be more disappointed. After driving hours to get to there we arrived to a completely dark home and all of the doors locked. I heard no response from Michael when I reached out to him that day, nor earlier that week and the conversation has since been silent. We spoke with the locals who notified us that he had been gone for weeks, which he had not communicated. If something happened and he needed to cancel a simple note that morning, and a refund and we would have been on our way no problem no harm no foul. But we heard nothing! We hung around waiting and wasting precious hours of our vacation in front of dark Pura Vida. He never showed, and we drove to La Fortuna to frantically find a place to stay that night. I entrusted Michale with my most valuable vacation time, which I don't get a lot of, and my money and both were wasted. I have had no results in refunds and no conversation to explain what happened. This is by far the worst experience I have had with airbnb and getting stranded in a foreign country is never a great time. Wasted money.
We actually didn't make it to Mikey's place in El Castillo because we had already spent 5 days in La Fortuna and done most of the adventures we wanted to in the area, so Mikey suggested we go see the coast. Which he even helped us plan by organizing an awesome rafting trip for us that he joined us for. Mikey is a great guy that knows a lot about the activities in the area and has awesome stories.
Mikey was an amazing host. We ended up staying 3 extra days just because we loved the place so much. You could not ask for a better host, guide, or friend than this guy.
Mike was a gracious host who was very inviting and friendly and was a wealth of information. The place is a very cozy house right near near the lake and volcano and there were lots of places to hike and see nearby. The night we arrived, he suggested that we go to the Hot River which was a short drive away which was an incredible little spot, likely known by only the locals. Definitely a highlight of our stay in Costa Rica and it didn't cost us a dime! The next day we hiked to the lake and there was a trail that Mike showed us that was only about 200 meters from the house. We actually saw a group of about 8 howler monkeys on the hike and it was also a great experience. We only stayed the one night because we were flying out the next day but wish we could have stayed longer!
Mikey is super friendly and knows the area really well, so he can give great advice about what to do. He's cost-conscious and recommends authentic and inexpensive options for hiking and exploring. The place is basic but has everything you need!
Wir waren sehr begeistert von unserem Gastgeber, der uns hervorragenden Tips gab. Die Unterkunft war voll in Ordnung.
The Puravida Guesthouse may be small in size however is large in heart. Michael is the best host ever. He went out of his way to show us a great time with lots of laughs. Michael took us on several adventures and a tour around El Castillo. We stayed 4 nights and would definitely come back to stay here again.
The room is suitable for a short stay. No luxury at all. But very restful. Mikey is a rememberly person. Although we stayed only 1 night we had the opportunity to visit his personal trail to the arenal lake and his food forest.
Outstanding Host of his Guesthouse who is deeply interested in his guests having a fun time. Mikey is a superstar hiker, explorer, and overall adventurer, and can tailor the experience and challenges of exploring the Arenal Volcano area to anyone's needs. Great time! Great guy!
Mikey is an excellent host. My girlfriend and I stayed two weeks at Pura Vida and were completely satisfied. Mikey goes out of his way to make sure you have the trip and experience you want.
Accommodations are a great value, and you get some things that are harder to find in CR: strong internet, hot water, and strong flushing toilets just a few.
Stay here with Mikey, you will get to see a different side of Arenal, literally and figuratively.
