It is only what it is, a safe, cozy bunk in a sheltered boat with hot showers available right on the canal in Seattle for 25 bucks a night. I could feel a little rocking, hear the rain and could see thru a porthole from my bunk the scullers and kayakers slipping by in the early morning. Ben and Vanessa offered and went out of their way to adapt to my needs and make me as comfortable as possible.
The best stay! Mr. Webster did not coin enough words to describe Ben and his wife!!!!!!! They are the best!!!!!!!
Both Ben and Vanessa are really cool people. I am 6'6" so accommodations on a boat are a challenge. Was a unique experience and I would do it again.
I needed a bed for the Labor Day weekend and, having once been strong and nimble, I thought this would be the place for me. Ben and Vanessa were wonderful, very helpful and flexible. When I wasn't agile enough to swarm up into my bunk, they let me upgrade to their own comfortable double bed, well worth the added cost. We were near a bus route, but Ben kindly drove me where I needed to go. Once, stepping onto the dock, I somehow missed my footing and ended in the water. Fortunately, it was daylight, and I didn't get at all hurt, and the water wasn't too cold, and I'm a good swimmer, and Ben was on the boat and heard me, and was strong enough to help push and pull me out of the water, and all's well that ends well. Evidently this old (72) and out of tune body could use a steady hand getting on and off the boat. But I loved Ben and Vanessa and their charming boat, and look forward to seeing them again if I ever get back to Seattle.
This was a fun way to spend a few nights in Seattle. Ben and Vanessa were great. They picked me up from the airport and also dropped me off when I needed to leave. They have lots of great stories about their adventures. The Marina shower/bathroom was fine and usually available when I needed it. I could walk over the bridge to Ballard area easily.
I had the pleasure to stay with Ben and Vanessa while I was out visiting the Seattle area for an upcoming transition to move here. I had a great experience staying with them in their houseboat. There was enough space to place my items in the boat and they are very nice about using the Xbox for Netflix or allowing access to the internet. They are a wealth of information in the Ballard area (I highly recommend Card Kingdom!) and are involved in all sorts of activities. The area has a nice trail that you can walk on and they offer to rent a bike if you would like to bike. The area has a lot of interesting places to go and a nice view of the Marina’s. There is a community area where you can wash clothes, take showers and overall feel a part of the community there. I had an awesome stay and time while there and found Ben and Vanessa to be great folks. Thanks again!!!!!
I was not looking for anything fancy, just a place to crash at night and something that would not cost a lot. Ok for a short term stay. It suited what I was looking for. Host was accommodating and courteous.
Staying on this boat converted into a small apartment was definitely a cool experience that is great for backpackers who want to see a different side to Seattle. Its cramped, a bit messy, but has the essentials. Its more about the other unique experiences that Ben throws at you - parkour, rock climbing, and some random things... Like a trip to see glacier caves or a geeky night at a board games bar. If you have an open mind you'll love it. I wish I could have stayed for longer! Ps. Whats the name of that scifi book you've published again? :P

World Line :) It's on (website hidden) for cheap download if you don't want hardcopy :)
Ben and Venessa were really great hosts - always friendly, laid back, and always willing to help. The boat, overall was a great place to stay: private room, secure, clean, and access to internet, Netflix, and Hulu. Nearby, there are private bathrooms and a small laundromat that may be used by guests. The only real drawback was some minor electrical issues with the boat. Overall, it is a great place to stay!
The lovely wooden boat was clean, super cosy to sleep on (I took the private room) and I felt really safe there. Charming indeed.
Location was good, the marina is a little far from downtown but is near Ballard which has lots of restaurants, supermarket and pharmacy and is a nice neighbourhood. There is a bus stop about 5 mins walk away which takes you to the city centre in 25 mins for $2.25
But what awesome fun, friendly and open minded hosts...
I basically lived Ben and Vanessa's lifestyle for the weekend which was so interesting for me, living on a boat as well as being invited to various activities - meals, parkour, hula, poi, cinema (didn't do any climbing - but the hall Vanessa works at looks incredible!). They also offered me rides if I needed them which was helpful. Very open minded and well travelled people with interesting stories.
Some things to bare in mind as a guest;
- Get Ben to show you how the toilet works - using a boat toilet is a little different from normal! :)
- There are some metal bars just above the bed in the guest room (you can see in the pics) which means you need to be a little nimble to get into the bed. I would recommend the lounge if this is tricky for you. But I found it fine.
- Make sure you see Mt. Rainier! It is magical.
Nice couple, respectful and kind. The only problem was a confusion about price that we wished we had solved before while they were here.
Vanessa and Ben were great guests and I loved having them here. They were quiet, neat, independent, reliable, showed initiative, generally guests you would like to have in your home.
They are on a great adventure and I admire them for this. I wish them well on their journey and they are welcome back any time for even a much longer stay!
Ben and Vanessa are very quiet, polite, non drinkers, non smokers and are nice guests. Ben always offered to help. They are also hosts on airbnb and know how to be good geusts.
Ben and his wife were great guest. Even though it rained when they were here, they still found thing to do. Wonderful guest
Ben and Vanessa were good guests. They didn't mind our cluttered house. They made themselves at home here. They were renting a room and then shared kitchen/living space.
It was a real pleasure having Ben and his friends stay with us. We hardly even knew they were here tho. They were very respectful and left the premises in the same condition they found them. We would love to seem him again sometime in the future!
