Mak and roommates were very friendly and helpful, and were accommodating in us checking in early. Unfortunately, they were in the process of moving out, so appliances were moved out, such as microwave oven, and the common areas were not cleaned. Our room was clean, though. Only the rice-cooker and electric kettle were available for use. The whole unit was cleaned after all their stuff were moved out, one day after we were there.
Had problems with power circuit breaker tripping each time we showered and used the hot water heater. Eventually, roommate showed us how to reset the breaker, and informed us that the water heater always had a problem. No prior warning on this. Also, kitchen light was not working.
Location of apartment is good, and close to Yew Tee MRT station.
Very convenient to shops and food court. Rates reasonable, but not good if you need to cook at apartment. Since they moved, this apartment will probably not be available for rent in the future.
It was a very convenient place to stay at. Very close to mrt station. There are restaurants and convenience store nearby. The accomodation is straight forward--bed to doze off at night with a/c and Toilet&bath is shared with the host only. Though this room is inside a house you share with the host, our privacy was never compromised. The host was very patient with us. He was accomodating and will give you tips on how to enjoy your singapore stay. Very affordable too. I will recommend this place to my friends and will still contact Mark if i need a place to stay in singapore again. Twas nice meeting you Mark!
In "one" word: I recommend. The flat is on 7th floor of the apartments building, 3 minutes walk from the subway station. Make sure you get a flat's number from the host, as it did not come from Airbnb. One can call the host from the public phones in the airport - local calls are free from there! It seems to me that it includes calls to local mobile phones. The flat has 4 bedrooms (1 is for you). In addition, there are living room, kitchen, dining room and a washroom (shower and toilet, no bath tub); there is a laundry machine too. Makishou said I have access to all of them. The wi-fi worked impeccably; Makishou gave me an adapter for the local electricity - local power outlets are British ones, different from American/European ones - so I could use my laptop. My bedroom had bad, pillow, blanket, window, aircon, table, closet, many hangers and hooks, only 1 power outlet; everything functioned properly. Makishou supplied 2 keys: from the apartment and from the room. I stayed there 7 nights and never saw other 3 tenants, including the host - it was perfect! I was going out and coming back when I want. By subway: takes 2 hours to get there from the airport and about an hour from there to the city center (Raffles Place, Chinatown, Little India, Orchard Rd. etc). There is a plaza near the subway station: it contains a shopping mall, money changer (you lose about 0.44% comparing to the world rates), printing place, huge amount of diners including McDonalds (24 hours), Subway, a few grocery stores (24 hours), KFC, Hong Kong restaurant, 2 bakeries, 2 kopitiams (24 hours) (local diners where almost every dish costs between 2-4 USD), plenty of taxis (always). The subway stops running around midnight, so to get back from the center during nighttime one need a night bus (rans only on weekends, I think) or taxi - which are cheap, softly speaking (2.50 USD to start, 0.44 USD/km). Totally great area for peoplewatching and real Singaporean experience: I did not see any Caucasians there. It is very close to the checkpoint so you can visit Malaysia: go 1 subway station, take a local bus, grand total about 1.60 USD and you are in Johor, where the food is even cheaper and not worse. Makishou even gave me a transportation card (it costs 4 USD to buy, one must load it and then saves about 15-20% in comparison with single rides (say 0.35 USD/ride), so it may not be suitable for short stays unless you do not have to purchase it) - return it to him before you leave! I talked to the host only 2 times - when I came and left - and did not need his help during the stay; that being said, he made an impression of friendly and intelligent person, not small-minded, the one who will gladly help if you will tell what you need. Go there...
