Signal Mountain is definitely the most scenic corner of a very scenic Chattanooga. The neighborhood is very attractive and the gardens across the street from Susan's place offer some of the best views around. It is a wonderful perk to have access to them.
The accommodations are clean and offer all the basic amenities one might expect to find. The "suite" is actually two bedrooms at the end of the hall. A door has been added to the hallway to provide privacy. The sitting room has an abundance of furniture in it - a small dining table, a large recliner, a little couch a refrigerator, microwave and a hutch with a TV. It feels a bit cluttered, but it's functional.
The other bedroom has a very comfortable double bed and a private bath. It has ample closet space and another TV. There is no radio that I could find. The bath is a classic "1960's Master Bath", all they way down to the original tile, vanity, etc. There is a large shower, but no tub.
Susan provides a wide array of coffee choices, along with several do it yourself breakfast options like toast, jelly, & boxed cereal. I particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit she'd left in the fridge.
She and her husband were gracious hosts. They were friendly and helpful. Staying with them is very much as a guest in their home. It is safe, secure and very quiet area that is also a stunningly scenic neighborhood. The drive to get there is a bit challenging with all the road construction underway, but it's worth the effort!
Our short stay of one Sunday evening was a perfect way for Margie and I to "break up our drive" on a return travel through Chattanooga. Arriving at Susan Nelson's at dusk, we were a little exhausted and quite pleased to find such a comfortable sitting room in addition to the ample bedroom. Susan greeted us very nicely at the door and showed us to our suite of rooms, complete with plenty of goodies in the refrigerator. We snacked that evening and next morning also. Delicious nut bread! Next morning we explored the views on the walking path which is immediately across a quiet street. We want to come back and experience this path in the spring since all sorts of native plants have been landscaped throughout and are well tended on the expansive hillside. Susan has a beautiful place to live and it is so nice that she opens up her house and allows people to enjoy the full experience of this lovely mountain top setting. And not to forget her dog, Nutmeg (I believe is the name), he was so friendly and mild mannered and very smart. We could not have had a better overnight stop on that Sunday evening. And just for everyone's information, it was perfectly neat and clean as one might expect. Thank you for such a pleasant stay, Susan!
We had a great time staying at Susan's place. Her place was very comfortable and right across from a cute garden with a river overlook. You will love the area and her sweet disposition! Thanks Susan! We will stay again. :)
Susan's place was just what I was looking for -- quiet, peaceful, and across the street from one of the most beautiful vista views of the river and mountains! The accommodations were great; Susan and Nutmeg are wonderful hostesses. And the treats for breakfast were delicious. This is a perfect way to see Chattanooga and the mountains with a nice getaway added in.
Susan (and Nutmeg!) were wonderful hosts. The rooms that were provided for us were very private, spacious, and tidy. Everything we could have wanted was right at our fingertips. Susan left us a well-stocked fridge/freezer with a great breakfast. She also provides access to a wonderful private park right across the street. It features modern sculptures, extensive beautiful landscaping, private nooks, and a beautiful series of terraces that wind down the slope offering great views of Chattanooga and the valley below. Our stay was excellent!
If you desire a quiet, comfortable, private experience, then this is Definitely the place for you to stay. Susan was absolutely accomodating, generous, and kind. It was really cool to have my own room with a sitting room that is actually blocked off from the rest of this beautiful home. So privacy was exceptional. Now, if you are into Nature, words can not adequately describe the beautiful park across the street from Susan's. The gorgeous park offers paths filled with beautiful plants (named) along the pathways along with interesting art sculptures from various artists. I had a delightful time observing the sunset and sunrise on each day. Butterflies flying around, landing on flower to flower. Susan mentioned the park as an excellent "soul awakening" experience. I couldn't describe it any better than in those terms. Yes, the park is absolutely a "soul awakening" experience. Now back to Susan's home. I was treated kindly and with respect. It was neat to be greeted by sweet "Nutmeg" each time I arrived home. Going to miss you Nutmeg.:} Sweet dog, and full of love. There was breakfast waiting each morning. Fresh delighful fruit bowls, cerals, coconut water, rolls, and delicious bananna bread. I have enviromental allergies, so it helped tremendously that I was able to turn the A/C to a comfortable temperature. I felt like a princess during my stay at Susan's. Marianne, the housekeeper even washed and pressed my clothes. I often thought Marianne was working magic because when I do my own clothes, they just don't look the same. Thank you Marianne. Overall, Susan's place is way past the 5 given stars and I give it 10 stars!! With Fall approaching, I would certainly recomend this delighful Scenic Signal Mtn Retreat! Thank you Susan for making my stay absoutely wonderful as well as memorable. I will be back, real son!
We had the most wonderful stay with Susan. She was very sweet and provided a variety of delicious breakfast items. Our private area was very spacious. It included a bedroom and bath, plus another room to lounge in. The views on Signal Mountain were unbelievable and we were lucky that Susan's place was right across the street from the most breathtaking view. We enjoyed our stay tremendously, plus her dog was very cute.
I'm a first time Air BNB user and will definitely say, it won't be my last because of how gracious and welcoming Susan made my Mom and I feel during our visit. The views from her place were spectacular and her lovely pet, "Nutmeg", made it perfect for my Mom, who's a lover of animals. What else can I say but "thanks" Air BNB and Susan for making our first use of your services, "fantastic"!!!
Susan's place was wonderful! Great scenic location, very quiet. The 2 rooms for the guest are very spacious and super clean. I highly recommend Susan's place as your next stop in this area.
I cannot begin to explain how much I loved my stay! I lived here for 3 months while I had a summer internship in downtown Chattanooga. It's got a beautiful view in the garden across the street and it's in a very tranquil neighborhood. I hiked all the trails on Signal Mountain while I was here and it's just a gorgeous town in general. The drive to downtown isn't far, about 15 minutes, but be careful with the windy road if you're not used to driving on mountains! Susan is a wonderful host and I got to know and to talk to her a lot throughout the span of the 3 months. There's even a housekeeper who cleans up after you, just like at a hotel. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and I will definitely return if I have the chance to.
