My husband, Shanker, and I live in the Washington, DC area. We travel often in the US and internationally and rent apartments frequently. We’re responsible, ‘low impact’ guests and have never had a problem with any of our rentals. We’re recently retired professionals, with one kid in college and another in graduate school. Now that we’re retired, we want to do more ‘slow travel’: Take the time to get to know a neighborhood, and where possible, meeting locals for a meal or cup of coffee. We usually read extensively about the places we visit and are most interested in the history, culture, art and music. We’re also foodies to some degree so we’re always on the lookout for good places to eat and good places to buy food. We also enjoy hiking and biking, and Shanker does a fair bit of yoga. When we’re at home, Shanker is a full-time music student (theory and composition) – and I'm a lazy writer and part-time management consultant who does pro bono work for non-profit organizations.
