I'm a high school English teacher living in the bay area, California. I grew up and went to school in Seattle, Washington, studying English, philosophy, and psychology at a private Jesuit university. Upon graduation, I spent a year working at Microsoft as an IT consultant, but didn't find much personal fulfillment in the corporate world, so I quit my job and went back to school to get a Masters in Teaching/Education and have spent the last 12 years committing myself to the best job I can imagine anyone ever having.

Teaching doesn't afford me a lot of free time, but during my breaks, I like to travel quite a bit, read (good fiction or political and entertainment blogs, mostly), write, cook, and everybody's favorite, "hang out with my friends."

What else do I like? In terms of...

Dead Poets Society, Shawshank Redemption, Little Miss Sunshine, Old Boy, Christopher Nolan movies, David Fincher movies, Up in the Air, The Descendants, Young Adult, the Dark Knight films, The first three Bournes, Love Actually, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 500 Days of Summer, Before Sunrise, After Sunset, Moon, Steven Spielberg films minus the schmaltz, scary flicks like The Descent, Wong Kar Wai films, Ang Lee films, and a little foreign beauties like Departures and Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring.

The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, House of Cards, Downtown Abbey, BBCs Sherlock, Top Chef

Stephen King, Christopher Hitchens, Toni Morrison, Andrew Sullivan, Margaret Atwood, Pablo Neruda, William Shakespeare, Plato, Tim O'Brien, Jane Austen, Clive Barker, Robert McCammon, and the proverbial "many more."

Vietnamese is my absolute favorite, probably because I grew up eating it at home (I can cook a mean bowl of pho) followed by Japanese and/or Thai. Kind of a foodie, so I'll probably try anything once as I love to go out and dine.
