My husband and I are exploring a bit more of my country (the US) before returning back to our full-time home in India. We're used to staying in B&Bs or rental apartments because we like getting the character of a city; something hotels never offer! This is our first time with Airbnb.
Because anyone reading this probably wants some type of indicator that we're not stalkers, vandals, thieves, or reckless partiers, I'll answer those questions below: our favorite travel destinations have been Yogyakarta, Indonesia and Lisbon, Portugal. We're laid back travelers: We've slummed it in the $3/night guest houses of Kathmandu and one of our favorite experiences was sleeping in a tree house in Sri Lanka. When on vacation, we're usually found on our laptops if at home, or we're out exploring the coffee houses, cafes and artsy stuff in the city. Our biggest regrets when traveling is not seeing or doing enough; but it's never from drinking too much the night prior. As for what we do for a living, I'm a writer (not that one would know it based on this entry here), and he's an engineer (because he's Indian, which means he has to be an engineer or doctor. Obviously).
I read a ton of non fiction and "The Big Short" by Michael Lewis was my favorite book last year. I blame this morbid curiosity regarding the financial crisis on my miserable time spent in business school. Sriram? He also likes nonfiction. His recent interest has been determining how the human brain works.
As for food, Sriram loves everything that graces his plate (except eggplant and coconut mixed with sweet flavors. Couldn't tell you why). Me, I'm vegan. I have an unabashed, pretentious yuppie-like love affair with Whole Foods and any place selling well-cooked seitan or tofu. We're both caffeine addicts as well, and can't live without our morning coffee. We are not coffee snobs and have been known to down instant coffee in desperate times calling for desperate measures. We are also not above going to Starbucks but we like supporting local businesses more (provided that the barista doen't make us feel inferior for not knowing a Sydney Poitier film reference).
So there we go!
