Moved to Austin in 2008 to enjoy everything this city has to offer....the continuous sunshine, cold springs and the curios folks that are jumpstarting all types of small business here.
I'd prefer to be outside all day if possible (with the exception of Texas afternoons in August). I'm a project guy and you'll almost always find me in the process of building something or dreaming up the next idea to construct.
My cottage is one of those projects. I bought this little home in fall of 2012 and have spent a lot of time transforming it to be my little urban homestead. I'm only one year into it, but plan to turn this little postage stamp of a lot into a food producing jungle with a cozy cottage smack dab in the middle of it.
I think the monstrosity of homes today are lazy. They spread money thin, do not challenge creativity and enable folks to go so deep into debt they can't afford to personalize a home and allow it to be an expression of a lifestyle.
That said, this home is my exercise to rightsize living to what I need yet doing so without stripping myself of some of the treats and splurges that make all the hard work worth it. If you are looking at what can be done with a smaller home footprint, I hope you'll consider this little space as a trial.
I like homes with texture and color and I would like to see my home evolve into a space that feels like an old book store - full of conversations and tales of what has happened and could be.
I take a lot of pride in being a good host. A clean, safe and cozy place to stay is the anchor of any trip - so I'll do my best to do that by sharing my home with you.
