The house is what you expect a dorm house to be, lol. It was kinda dirty and loud, but the community is very safe (or felt that way to me) with campus security all over. If you don't mind a little mess (although the room was clean), and some noise, then stay here. It's cheap, and you get what you pay for in life, right? I had a fun time, thank you!
I stayed here while attending my college reunion at Penn, and it was the perfect location because the apartment is just steps from campus. It's also just a block to the subway to center city and directly on a bus line. The apartment and room itself are nothing fancy but the futon is comfortable, there is a desk, and I had my own bathroom. I also enjoyed getting to know Alexey and his roommates- they are very friendly and made sure that I had what I needed during my visit. In short, this place was a great place to stay.
You'd like this if you want to be really close to U. of Penn, are on a budget, and like to be around easy-going college students. The place is a typical college student apartment. The futon bed was clean, but the rest of the place - not so much. I'm not so much bothered by that, but if you are, then this is not really the place for you. While I was there, the other students had friends over until about 11:30pm. Not a huge party, but not really peace and quiet, which I was wanting after a long day at a conference.
Friendly and helpful guys. No problems.
I was at Alexey's place for one night as I had to conduct interviews in Philly. Everything was easy with him and his roommates, so I recommend the place for others to stay there as well!
We had a reservation that canceled last minute and Alexey was able to confirm us the same day of arrival which was really awesome! Thanks again Alexey for saving our trip to Philly! We only met Alexey briefly when we arrived, but he was very nice and organized, having the key and room ready for us and explaining the room, house, bathroom, parking and transportation in the area. The room was just what we needed to crash for 1 night with an extra blanket, portable heater, desk, towel. Alexey accepted 2 of us to share the very comfortable futon in their spare room for a great price, so that was very cool. The place was relatively clean for a bunch on guy grad students, lol. We have been to college, so know how college boys live. We also met 2 of his housemates when leaving the next day and they were very nice as well. All of them were quite busy studying for finals. Their location was great! We found FREE on street parking 1 block away. We used the trolley to go to City Hall and took bus #42 back, both were $2.00. I would totally stay there again and recommend you do the same!
Alexey is a well-intended guy. He forgot to put on sheets on the bed when I arrived for the first night and made up for it. I was still working remotely trying to get a deliverable together that evening so couldn't bother following up on that. I could have just mentioned it and I would have gotten them, but things happen.
The place is a college-apartment environment. It's a very old building, dingy on the whole and expected in Philly and in University City. Can't expect much more for the price and to me it's a reasonable price.
I'm familiar with the area and it's close to University City Station if you're commuting around the Regional Rail. So it felt very convenient to me. I'm sure Alexey would have been good about helping you get familiar with their area if you need it. Though I had my own plans and needed to do my own thing, I felt comfortable about calling him up for informational things.
My stay at Alexey's was really great! He is a super nice guy, made me feel so welcome and was very flexible with my arrival time (I got stuck in some traffic and wasn't able to get there until several hours later than I had planned). His roomates are all very friendly and the room was perfect for what I needed, with a comfortable futon and a desk. His place was also really easy to find and close to everything I had planned that evening! If I return to Philly, I would definitely stay here again!
Had to take USMLE CS in philly so I stayed with these guys for the night before the test. It was a great place, quiet, and had my own bathroom. The guys who live there are really cool. I couldn't ask for anything more
I spent 2 nights at Alexey and his housemates' and I felt really welcomed even before visiting their house!!! His house was located only one block away from green trolly so I could easily access to where I wanted to go! Alexey and his roommates are all very nice penn students and they frequently asked me if I needed anything and made sure I was doing alright not only while I was there, but also before and after my stay in their house! As one of Alexey's friends commented, he is a very cool nice guy (and so as his roommates) so if you are a guy, I would definitely recommend you to stay with them while in philly!! I would say, felt like a typical college students' shared house where 5 nice guys are living!!
After a little bit difficulties to get to my flat he finally arrived here. Everything was great, it was very nice to host Alexey.
Thank you very much Alexey.
Alexey was a good guest. I rexommend him
Alexey was a great guest. They left the house in great condition and was appreciative.
Alexey and guest were wonderful to have. Super busy with a wedding that weekend, they were clean, respectful, and fun to hang out with in the little time we had. I would definitely recommend them.
Love Alexey! He and his friend were very mindful and friendly.
i didn't see alexey, they were in late and out early. can say they were quiet and clean, hardly knew they were here. i recommend alexey without hesitation. :)
Alexey is a reliable, down-to-earth, and fun guy in general. As a social connector, he is always up for a good beer and getting to know new, interesting people. He will go above and beyond if he can help you in some way and he stays true to his word, so any stay in his house will likely be a good experience.
Alexey is well known in the computer science community at UPenn for good reasons. He cares about building a strong community and is a fantastic organizer and thinker. He is great to chat, engage in discussion, or just hang around and play Catan with.
Alexey's a great guy - a lot of fun and particularly interesting to talk to.
