The hosts: Carissa and Lucas are generous, welcoming and gracious hosts. They provided so many resources to make my stay safe, hassle free and enjoyable. Even though they were in India on a trip themselves during my stay, it was always easy to reach them if I had any questions. Staying in their home felt like staying at a friend's house.
The house: It's gorgeous. The pics are beautiful, and accurate, but really it's hard to capture how private and peaceful it is. The house is unique in that it is facing a garden and rice fields beyond, so people who may walk by do not disturb your privacy. There is plenty of space, the bed is really comfortable and everything is spotless and in excellent condition. I could not have been more delighted.
The location: People walk up the ridge just to get this view! It's at the top so you'll enjoy fresh breezes, and it's really peaceful to come home after a day out. Go to the rooftop in the morning and watch the sunrise, or see the full moon. It's a very safe place, I never once worried about sleeping with windows open or the safety of my stuff. Definitely go to Karsa Spa...it's one of the best in Ubud, and happily just a two minute walk away.
The neighbors: The Balinese landlord and his family looked after me like I was an adopted sibling. They helped me in all kinds of practical ways, but also invited me to their family temple ceremonies, stopped by to chat with me, and in general just made me feel safe, welcome, and part of the community.
I rented a scooter, which was very practical for getting around. I also walked the ridge trail into and back from Ubud center in the morning or evening, to avoid the heat. I asked the landlord to buy mosquito netting for me, and after that had no bites and could sleep with windows open and get all that lovely fresh night air.
I feel so fortunate to have stayed here, both because the hosts are such wonderful and decent people, and because the house and location exceeded all expectations. If you enjoy peace, privacy and don't mind a little scooter ride or a walk into town, I recommend this house.
