We needed a place in Austin for SXSW 2013 and Andy's place was one of the few private rentals left as we scoured last minute. However, it was in a great little neighbourhood in East Austin within walking distance to Sam's BBQ (google it) and some hipster dive bars on 12th. The house itself was small but cosy, and had everything we needed for our stay. Fully equipped kitchen with washer and dryer and linens and towels provided. It was hot and the AC come in handy.
Would give 5 stars if there was wifi!!
Andy was a great host - helped me out with loads of stuff above and beyond the call of duty, including directing me to a local bike hire place, and even inviting me along to listen to him play the fiddle at the White Horse Pub. The house is neat and tidy - comfortably accommodates 2 people, and it's certainly homely. For transportation you need a car or bike - or the light rail is only 8 to 10 minutes' walk away at MLK Junior - however, services into downtown are only twice an hour. On the plus side, it's $1! The East Side for me was a real eye-opener - loads of bars, happenings, food trucks etc, so get away from downtown and see the real Austin. Andy's a really good host and was helpful with additional questions I had.
