I am an American working overseas. I was a public school teacher in Washington State, and now I am an elementary school librarian currently in Holland. Prior to being here, I taught in Sudan, Qatar, and Indonesia, and I have also lived in Thailand and Scotland.
Some friends of mine recommended Airbnb. Previously I have done a lot of couch surfing (the website is automatically hidden by Airbnb, but it has something to do with sleeping on people's sofas), both as visitor and as a host. I really enjoy it, but sometimes it is good to have a bit more space or a different option.
I have traveled a fair amount, but I find the question about my favorite place to be a difficult one, so I always say it is the next place I am going. When I go away, I miss my dog. She is the first one I have ever had, and she makes a great companion.
Even though I live in The Netherlands, I have never smoked (anything). I am a vegetarian, so you won't come home to a place reeking of fish. I always fold my blankets at the end of a visit and I never leave dirty dishes. Having had loads of guests, and been kindly hosted by both friends and strangers, I try to do my best in either role.
