Bonne situation, en face de la gare, très pratique.
Par contre chambre très sombre et escaliers très raides pour accéder aux chambres.
location is extremely superb as it is a stone's throw away from the Central Station. walking distance to all the major attractions, Dam Sqr, Red Light District, Sex Museum & many more. Plenty of food around especially halal food options. the room was very small & lights were dim. very narrow staircase from main entrance to the room. maggy was reachable upon our arrival at the Central Station to guide us to the apartment via telephone. her friend also Maggy was very friendly too. they allowed us to store our luggages at their place after checking out as our train to the next destination was at night. if location is your utmost priority, this is the place (minus the comfort).
All in all the apartment was not bad. We only spent a night there, it was clean enough, and also very quiet at night although so near to Amsterdam Central Station. There are complimentary coffees and teas in the room. We only had an issue on our arrival about the cleaning fees (the lady at the reception claimed they were to be paid cash as an extra), but after contacting airbnb's customer service and proved our point she let us stay without extra payments. A bit pricey for what it offers, surely they could use a friendlier approach. We suggest other guests to pay particular attention to the extras asked by the host: in our case they were not due.
We visited Maggy for 5 nights. Maggy was very helpful and an excellent host.I was impressed from the location of the room. Right outside of the central train station . Great value of money. Totally recommended.
we had 3 main problems and other minor problems:
1) before to proceed with the booking we asked Maggy (via airb&b message system) if we could have check in a little earlier and if it was possible to chek out in the afternoon and the answer was a generic YES. so we made the booking. When we arrived there they told us the late check out was not possible and not even the luggages could have been kept there until 4pm in the afternoon, but to bring them at the train station.
2) The biggest problem: once the booking was made the system showed a total of the reservation of €€€, that total was indeed including the 30€ final cleaning fee (you could not avoid to include it) but as soon as the booking was made, Maggy wrote us telling that the 30€ fee was not included and was to be paid locally (as well as local taxes..). we replied right away and on our messages exchange with Maggy we explained that the fee was included anche charged on my credit card, and so Maggy wrote to us "just bring the receipt with you and it will be fine", so we kept the booking. But when we arrived at the B&B she told us that we were suppose to pay the 30€ fee as it was not included. Could it be a mistake in AirB&B system? not ours for sure as THE BOOKING SYSTEM of AIRB&B DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO REMOVE THE CLEANING FEE, so there was no way I could have made the reservation without paying it. We ended up argueing once we arrived and we paied half of the fee.
3) The girl that welcomed us at the B&B was very rude to us because of theese problems, using word as F**K referring undirecly to us, complaining because the main door was left open, but when we arrived the door was already open and so we left it that way. could you use such words with guests??
The rooms was suppose to be for 4 people, but 1 person could not come on the trip, so we noticed Maggys the day before arrival; Maggy never replied to us, but while no discount was made since we were only 3 people (but this i can understand), they gave us a smaller room where we barely fit in 3, with 2 matrasses on the floor and one on a normal bed/net. The Toilet door could not close.
The room was very cold as well. The day lwe left the girl at the reception was nice to us, but all this problems made our trip to Amsterdam very unwelcome at the beginning.
so be aware if you decide to book here. It's central it's true, but hospitality is another thing.
good luck if you decide to book here! I would not do it for that price again!
maggys guesthouse is the most central place to stay you can imagine. the rooms and the bathrooms are clean. you have your own coffee machine and a water boiler to make tea. there a clean towels available. you can come and go whenever you want. you can walk to every important spot in max. 20 minutes. the only negative thing are the very dim lights, you can barely see something when they are on. and we missed the remotecontrol for the tv. if you want to stay for a couple of days and you are looking for an easy accesable place to stay over night, this is perfect for you.
thank you for staying with maggy
you are always welcome
hope to see you soon
nearly everything was as it was supposed to be:
+the room itself was a bit small but clean, as were the towels
+it's located right in the centre of amsterdam (we you go out on the street and turn right, you can actually see centraal station). the dam is about a five minute walk
+the price is pretty low for amsterdam
+it's allowed to smoke inside
+there is free coffee, tea and a tv
+/-the heating was a bit strange...sometimes it didn't work, then it was really hot again...but there are some warm blankets...so it wasn't really a problem
+/- the stairs are pretty steep (but i think that's normal for amsterdam)
altogether, it is absolutely recommendable!
For those of you who want to enjoy the city and not the place where you are staying it's the best place. The best value for money: the location is just two minutes from the central station and 5 mins walk from the red light district. The room is tiny but clean.
It was a bit cold as we were there in winter and the heating in Amsterdam works strange (we didn't really get how), and the light from the lamp is really dim.
The owners are very nice, it is permitted to smoke in the room, and there are always tea and coffee available for free.
Enjoy the city by walking through it and spare a fortune on public transport!
