Living in Berkeley, been here for about 3 years. Prior, I've lived in NYC for 9 years, in the East Village, and in LA in Silverlake for about a year. I make music, paint, write, and do computer programming. I don't drink or use any drugs, and am a day person. When I travel, I usually visit friends back in LA or NY, or head back to Iowa (where I grew up). I also go up to Portland from time to time, and sometimes Arizona - either Phoenix or Sedona.
Things I like: vegetarian food (although I do eat meat), great sushi (case-in-point), burritos in California, pizza in NY. My favorite books are Catcher in the Rye (everyone loves this, right?) and Siddhartha. I love too many movies to list, but will say that LA has the best theaters in the world. They don't mess around when it comes to movie watching.
I'm independent and love exploring cities on my own, but always enjoy hearing suggestions from locals. I work for myself, and work remotely, so I've traveled for extended periods of time while staying connected with work, and in that time, got really good and traveling light and getting a read on a locale quickly. I'm great at navigating conversations with new people. If we don't have much in common, I'm quick to find what we do have in common and build from there. When I'm hosting people to stay, I think what it would be like to come in as a traveler, road-weary and tired, and deeply appreciate of the things that bring a long day to a pleasant end - good food, an easy schedule, a clean and comfortable space to decompress.
