Andrew was a fantastic host from start to finish. He answered all my questions very quickly before and during my stay my either email or SMS. He took care of the smallest things, like supplying extra dishcloths the same day. In addition, he was a pleasure to talk to and couldn't have been a nicer host.
The apartment itself is the very definition of a Greenwich village pad. It overlooks a mini park of sorts where people come to play chess when it's sunny and the famous Magnolia bakery from Sex and the City. It's also on Bleecker, which is the best 'village' street. It has been the backdrop for several Woody Allen films and is frequented by all sorts.
The area is a mixture of upmarket and old neighbourhood, with lots of small family businesses and fantastic restaurants. The apartment is 10 minutes slow walk between 2 subway stations.
The apartment is very comfortable and spacious. It's got old world charm and wooden floors. There's almost no noise from neighbours. The double sofas are a perfect place to relax after a long day walking the streets. There's lots of storage space and although there are a few personal items, the place isn't cluttered with stuff.
I've no complaints about the apartment, but there are a few facts that I think people should know as we all value different types of accommodation....
> There is a standard wifi connection which is good, but if you are spoilt by your home 100MBs you might need to be a bit more patient.
> The mattress is memory foam, which has its fans, but I find it gets hot.
> The bedroom is on the corner of the building with wonderful views, but even with the windows closed it can be a bit noisy for light sleepers. The sound level is 'normal' for New York. I got used to it (email hidden); The heating in winter is fantastic, but you can get too warm unless you open the windows.
> There is limited cable TV, but who comes to New York to watch TV!
> The kitchen is cute and clean, however if you are Gordon Ramsay you might struggle there's only a modest set of kitchen equipment.
I'd definitely stay here again!
