I'm a journalist from the Bay Area (California) via San Diego/Tijuana via Barcelona who is currently based in Mexico City. I'm into dining out, riding bicycles, Woody Allen movies, travel, art, music and good strong crafty cocktails. Hablo español, Russian and after a few drinks I like to think I speak French too. The farthest away from home I've ever been is Kazakhstan, and the place I most want to go back to is Istanbul. Next on my wish list: Buenos Aires, Cartagena, Bali and Berlin. My favorite part of travel is walking the streets, hunting for cute cafes, and eating things I can't find back home, be they horsemeat sausages (Almaty), grasshopper tacos (Oaxaca), grilled snails (Barcelona), sheep brain stew (Marrakech) or weird salads made from beets, beef and gelatin (Moscow). I've never been an AirBNB host but have been a grateful guest in several countries and am blown away by the hospitality of the people I've met through this site. I try to be a low-maintenance guest and am pretty independent, but I'm definitely open to going out on the town for a drink or two if you're up for it.
