I live with my wife and son close to Niseko's ski areas where I like to spend as much time as possible during the winter months.
Interests -wide and varied.

My wife and I loved our stay. Our bedroom was very comfortable (especially the big fluffy down comforter!), and had plenty of space for all of our gear. John and his family were welcoming and very helpful with giving us recommendations on where to ski and eat. John cooked up great breakfasts everyday, which we miss already.
John and his family were very kind hosts. His description of his home and it's location are very accurate - he lives in a beautiful area. We rented a car from someone he connected us with, and it definitely enhanced our experience in Niseko. We are grateful for John's advice as I was planning our trip to Hokkaido, many thanks! I would highly recommend this accommodation.
The plumbing at his home is dated and the toilet had an unique odor - my husband didn't mind the smell, but I found it quite unpleasant. Nevertheless, a great stay.
John is a very chill and helpful guy. He was instrumental in giving us tips and helping us acquire an affordable rental vehicle. His family is very nice. Breakfast was good each morning and the family is very accommodating for when we wanted to use the kitchen.
The space downstairs is adequate but tight for 3 people. The toilet was malfunctioning so it took some extra work to operate, and it made the downstairs (the guest room is downstairs) smell a bit. Overall we had a great experience.
We had a lovely couple of nights stay in the home of John, Atsuko and Te-chan. The weather was ferocious but the hospitality of the Simon family made us feel most welcome and warm. As other guests have noted the room was very comfortable and especially the bed.
Location-wise, it is within walking distance of at least one onsen and a couple of hotel eating options, as well as Niseko Annupuri and Moiwa resorts. However, having a car is essential for getting to the property and also around the area, and for less than 5000yen for a couple of days can be picked up near Chitose airport.
We cannot thank John and his family enough for the warm welcome, tasty breakfasts, local guidance and good chats. Not to mention helping immensely by clearing snow from around our car, to enable us to park at their place and move it when we needed. Will definitely be back, hopefully later this season or in the contrast of summer.
John and Atsuko were the best hosts you can think of! They dropped us off at places, fed us breakfast, gave us the best runs recommendations and shared many interesting conversations. Get prepared to be an Angry birds champion to face Techen, their 6 year old.
House is warm and actually a walking distance from annapuri if you don't mind the walk up with your gear for 10-15min. There is a few very nice restaurants in the walking distance as well. Nice to be away from the craziness of Hirafu but if you want to get there there is a free connecting bus from annapuri.
John and his family was very welcoming. We had a fantastic time staying with them. Very helpful in showing us around and helping us rent a car, book other accommodation and other things where knowing the language is an advantage. I would recommend to anyone wanting a quiet place to stay with a homey feel.
Not a problem Tobias- you guys are welcome back anytime. I have taken the listing down at the moment, but just let me know if you're ever heading back over.Cheers
We had a wonderful time in Japan thanks to John and his family! Easy going and great local knowledge. Many thanks!
John and his family were very sweet and accommodating. The room was spacious and WARM, and the bed was the most comfortable we've had in Japan. You will definitely want your own car, the house is not walking distance from anything. The neighborhood is difficult to navigate in winter. Even with a map, address, and an English Garmin navigation unit, we needed turn-by-turn directions to find it, so ask for these in advance (or follow John after work). Annupuri is SUPER close, but eating options are few and social options are almost nil. This is a great place to hole up and chill after a long day on the slopes.
John, Atsuko and Te-chan made our Niseko-stay very easy, comfortable and interesting. We felt very welcome in their home and enjoyed every day.
John was a great local asset, helping us with all kinds of bookings, translation and even showed us some great powder lines.
We can highly recommend them as hosts for a Japanese/Aussie home stay.
Thank you for your hospitality!

It was a pleasure to host John and his family, as they were great guests. They left our room so clean and tidy. We would love to host you again in the future!
We would highly recommend them to all the hosts!
Highly recommended!! John and his family are very natural and polite. They listened to my talk about Oita kindly and shared their Airbnb stories in Hokkaido - I enjoyed it!! They kept my room super clean and even cared about my neighbor not to make a sound. Thanks for your consideration!!
John and his family were very friendly and neat, I hope I can host them again. His son was so cute! Smart and well behaved, he played quietly while I explained about the studio. My apartment had to do some plumbing work while they were staying but they were understanding which was a bid relief for me. Great family, I can recommend to any host!
i'm always pleased to meet & help out a fellow expat from any country, but especially someone who's here in japan like me making his life.
such great timing that they were here with their little boy tetsu when michael & stella were here with their little girl emily--it made for a very nice airbnb moment.
we'd luv to have them back, of course, but to be honest i'm much more interested in getting up to niseko to stay with them!
It was a pleasure to deal with John from the start and he and his family left the house in a good condition.
I would be happy to accommodate his family again in one our properties in Japan.
John & Atsuko were best couple guests. They were stayed with me almost 1 week. They are come from Japan Niseko and also very nice and had Intelligent, outgoing, clean & tidy, easy going, insightful, considerate and cool person to talk to. I told them to taste the delicious Chinese Dim Sum were very enjoyed. The kind of guest that every host dreams of having. Certainly hope we meet again.
John and his family are so gentle, So we could enjoy to host them.
Especially, John's kid is so cute. I appreciate that he'd played with my daughters and sons.
I hope that we host them some time.
