First off, had a great time. House was easy to get to but still secluded enough. Really appreciated home-cooked meals, chipping wood, building fires, and hiking on the property. Barbara and the cabin manager are easily accessible. Definitely looking forward to coming back when it's warmer.
Thanks again, B!
Rustic, quirky and SECLUDED! We had an amazing time at the house! Built circa 1850 it is just chock full of charm. The fireplace is the centerpiece and we used it for literally 3 days straight. Kitchen is FULLY equipped to handle the most elaborate meals as we made every meal there for 3 days! The grounds are lovely with some really ancient, beautiful rock formations out back which we explored. Lots of great books and movies to curl up with and just forget about city life. Moonlight and silence will let you decompress with ease. Barbara was a great communicator and everything is laid out so you'll have no worries! Wish we could have met her! Next time! : )
Here's a fun little tidbit about the house: There is a perfect circular hole above the fireplace that looks directly under the bed in the master bedroom upstairs, try to guess what it was for! Enjoy!

We had a wonderful experience staying at this super cozy little farmhouse. We love to cook, and the kitchen was perfectly adequate. Barbara was communicative and friendly throughout the whole process and I would definitely recommend this listing.

What a great place. Perfect for our needs with plenty of room. Barbara did a great job passing along helpful information to ensure we had a great time.
Barbara's Cabin is so cute and relaxing. Between the porch, outdoor fire pit, and 7 acres of land to explore - we had such a great time! The house lends it's self to a relaxing getaway and I would definitely return!
While the house is older and has lots of character, Barbara has modernized where it matters. The kitchen and bathrooms have been updated with modern comforts. She doesn't have wifi - but honestly, it was better this way. My family and I enjoyed the opportunity to unplug and play scrabble like the good old days.
Our trip was a quick weekend getaway, so we did not do much exploring in the surrounding areas but there is so much available to you. Biking, hiking, and so much more are at your fingertips with this cabin as your home base. I'd definitely recommend Barbara's house to a friend!
We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The house is beautiful and so is the setting. It is very well stocked with glasses, plates and cooking supplies, as well as towels, sheets blankets etc, so it would be a great place for a get together with family and friends. There is also a nice gas grill on the porch and a large fire pit in the yard. The house is on a county road so cars and trucks do pass from time to time that can be heard from the backyard, however most of the time all you'll hear are birds, crickets, frogs etc... The house is at the bottom of a mountain and there is a large rock outcropping on the side of the property, a nice little pond and lots of woods and hills behind the house to explore. This is a really nice place and we would definitely stay here again!
The farmhouse is a great place to stay if you're looking for somewhere rustic, but don't want to rough it completely. It's an easy 20 minute drive from places like Phoenicia and Woodstock, but you can hunker down and feel isolated. Despite being relatively close to the road, we never noticed passing traffic in mid-April. The kitchen is very well-appointed and has more appliances than my one in NYC. The rooms are comfy and there are lots of little nooks and places to settle in; the house would easily accommodate two couples. Bring a book, board games or some DVDs with you if you're looking for entertainment, I had zero cellphone service or internet access via my cell carrier Sprint (a blessing and a curse, but after 48 hours I stopped instinctively reaching for my phone every 2 minutes). Overall, we had a great time here and I'm looking forward to visiting again in the future.
Barbara's cabin is in a beautiful location and we found things as advertised or better. Barbara was a great host getting us all the pertinent info we needed but not overwhelming us, just letting us feel like we were on vacation.
I'd have great confidence renting from her again!
