Merci.
I grew up in New York City and I lived in a very poor neighborhood on the east side of town. It was considered the slums of NYC. I give this as a background because I don't want my comments to seem unwarranted and just a place that doesn't live up to American standards. My new wife and I planned a trip to Lille for a few days in December show that she may show me here childhood city. I had originally wanted a hotel but she insisted that we try AirBnb so that we may have an authentic Lille experience.
We planned on staying a total of six days and doing lots of sightseeing. We arrived at the house and the owners were frantically cleaning upon us entering the house. I first noticed that the front door was difficult to open but it wasn't a problem as I'm a strong man.
The owners left after giving us the tour and pointing out that one of the two toilets didn't work and only the one on the first floor was available . He also pointed out that we needed to clean the drain in the shower after every use as it tends to clog easily. He then pointed out that he had three (3) cats and asked if we wouldn't mind feeding them. This was never mentioned and thank god my allergy to cats no longer was an issue.
I still kept an open mind !
He left and now the house was ours to use. I entered the salon and noticed the sofa . The filth and dirt were so nasty you couldn't notice that the color was once white. What you could notice was that the three cats obviously used it as there scratch pad. I sat on it for maybe two minutes then felt a wave of disgust and opted for the floor. My children didn't mind but that was only after I took the 10 year old comforter/sheet from the bed and covered the fifth . I unfortunately had to use the bathroom at one point that was under construction and only had a small lightbulb hanging from the ceiling. After that pleasant experience I left the bathroom to find my feet in the cat box of litter next to the door . The litter spread everywhere with the distinct odor of cat feces and urine.
This smell I preferred over the smell of the rotting cheese left in the fridge.
Sleeping that night was a trip down memory lane as the sheets had holes in them and the pillows were from a bygone era.
The next day I realized I just couldn't live like this. I struggled in my life to make money and not live in the slums ever again. My wife called the owner and said we needed to leave. His only concern was the money and cats. He has both. airbnb should be ashamed of letting a property like this available .
Great space to take the kids. Had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Even the cats seemed at home with us all there.
Thanks to you !!!

Vincent and his family stayed at the apartment for one night. Lovely and sympathetic. Easy to communicate with and considerate, I would recommend them without hesitation!
